Hi folks,

Hope this question hasn't already been answered--I scanned the archives, but search was off...I'm new to transcoding and to ffmpegx.

I've got a .vob file which should be DVD quality with a 2.35:1 aspect ratio...unfortunately, all the "info" button gives me is a message box which says "Alert", so I can't find out for sure what the size or anything else is.

What I'm shooting for is a high-quality .avi--it needn't fit onto CDRs, as I've got a DVD burner...I'm shooting for an .avi of 1-2Gb. Really, what I want is to get this to a storable size losing as little quality as possible.

My confusion is this. Say I tell ffmpegx that I want a 720 wide image...it computes my height to be 304. This makes sense, mathematically: 720/304 = 2.35ish. But then when I go over to the filters tab to crop, I crop around the image I get in the preview, and it comes out to be 710 x 356. 710/365 = 1.95. Why doesn't the image size in the preview match the aspect ratio?

Thanks in advance,

ShadyTB
