I have this nice 48 inch JVC hdtv and wanted to know on the recorder setup for "TV Type" do I select "aspect 16:9 & 480i" or "16:9 & 480p"?
Also anyone have problems playing backed up discs made with DVDX Xpress using DVD-R on this recorder? Does the Panasonic even playback DVD+R (the manual doesn't mention it at all)? Thanks for any help.......![]()

Well I went ahead and recorded my first DVD-R discs from a VHS movie and I must say the playback quality is much better than I ever got from doing a capture to my computer. In fact it does look somewhat better than the source disc IMO if that's possible.
Anyone know if it's possible to put chapter marks into a recording from a VHS tape with this Panasonic recorder?
Funny story about this recorder. I paid almost $600 for it after taxes and a three year extended warranty from Circuit City. I could have got it for much less online however I wanted the option to take it back if it didn't perform for me plus the extended warranty so I went retail. So an hour later I stop at my local casino to have dinner and win $600 while I'm waiting to be seated. Bottom I got the recorder for free.

Well, i just picked up a panasonic e30 and the manual also only states dvd-r/dvd-ram, but i have tried dvd+ and vcd's and they both worked fine, i tried an svcd and it played but skipped like it was trying to read it but couldn't quite get it ? i know the svcd's are fine as i have watched them on all my standalone dvd players.Originally Posted by Bob W
I think if i remember correctly from what i read, isn't the 480p for hdtv monitors ? -

Yes, my E50 achieves just day and night better picture quality than anything I ever managed on my computer. My results with VHS tapes have been truly excellent, recording at "XP" quality.
If you hit the "Stop" button during a recording, then hit the "Record" button again, you'll get a chapter mark at that point. Otherwise, if you have segments longer than five minutes, the machine will automatically add chapter points at every five minutes. Note that if you hit the "Pause" button, though, you will not get a chapter point there.Originally Posted by Bob W
I hope this helps -- good luck!

Actually you would create a Title mark not a chapter markOriginally Posted by thoots
but close enough

No, no -- I said "chapter POINT!"Originally Posted by urbanlegend
Hehehehe -- yes, I should revisit the manual and see what the heck they're really calling these things. There definitely is a difference between what you're calling at "title mark" and a "chapter mark" -- the former giving you an opportunity to label the segment in the DVD menu, and the latter being just a navigation point....
