Ok, I have tried several different things to rip this movie to my HDD but have had nothing but bad luck. DVDXCOPY says the main title has 73 chapters...don't know if that is a cause. But all programs, including the crap software DVDXCOPY can't seem to work through the movie. They get to 50% or 70% and I have seen Smart Ripper get to 83% but that was the highest and then they all just quit working. Decryptor says I/O error, smart ripper just stops, dvdxcopy quits responding and says error reading disk, and for some odd reason DVD shrink closes immediately after displaying the DVD information to me. I am lost, can anyone recommend any other tools in the ripping section here that would probably get the job done, I really am tired of spending hours and getting nowhere with this DVD, plz help.

    Thanks

  2. Hi,

I had no difficuly ripping Terminator 2 about a couple of weeks back. I used DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, and COPYTODVD. No issues with this!! There may be something wrong with the particular DVD itself. I have had that problem before also with other discs. If you can, try another disc and see if all your software works.

Your DVD is dirty or damaged....

Its the Terminator 2 Ultimate Edition DVD. Has two discs. The first disc is the movie, both theatrical movie and special edition movie. The second disc is all of the extra commentary and stuff. I will try another movie and see if all of the software does what its supposed to do.

Is there a way to just tell decryptor to rip just the special edition movie and the main menu? I don't really think I want to backup the theatrical released movie that the dvd also contains.

  7. @pyrate83,

T2 has a lot..and i mean a lot of multi-angles to deal with...when i was ripping to SVCD (which means all these multi-angles must be removed)...many rippers had a hard time...

    ------------

in your case, use DVDdecryptor. goto options and make sure "multi-angle processing" is NOT checked.

also, right before you're about to rip, i would suggest you play T2 in a software DVD player for a couple of minutes.. (i.e. in winDVD/powerDVD)

one last thing, make sure the disc is completely clean...so dirt, scratches, dust, etc...

The ultimate edition actually has 3 pgc's. That shouldn't have any bearing though on being able to rip the one vob set all those PGC's are in. Sounds like the last thing poopyhead mentioned which is that you have a dirty disk. Smart Ripper or DVD Decrypter should be able to rip the entire disk with no problem.

2 of the three PGC's show 73 chapters If I remember correctly. The first one I think is the theatrical version and not the extended. Although I made my backup of the "Extreme edition."

rippers sometimes screw up when "removing" multi-angles....

i.e. when ripping DAD to SVCD (later backed up to DVD-R, instead), smartripper included the behind-the-scenes video footage rather than the actual movie

I haven't experienced this, but I take your word for it. Seamless branching titles like the T2 Ultimate edition can definitely be problematic. The thing though was in this case the poster said they were able to get like 80% or so ripped...so it sounds like it would be a disk issue...maybe scratches or dirt...but maybe it's what you are saying as well.

Either way though...I would think they could use DVD Decrypter and rip the entire Vob Set in file mode as opposed to IFO Mode. Then the software they'd use such as Instant Copy should allow them to pick their PGC...wouldn't it? I personally use DVD2DVR along with CCE...but DVD2DVDR gives me the option of selecting the PGC I want to keep and ripping with its internal ripper (prior to v.1.50 because of the laws in Germany, Chat walker took the internal ripper function out) or you can just rip the entire Vob Set or rip the movie in IFO mode with DVD Decrypter.

Anyway, I guess we'll see if they got anywhere if they respond to the post.

hence, i asked him to uncheck "multi-angle processing" in options :P

if that option was checked, even in "file mode" DVDdecryptor would remove the multi-angles/seemless branching....

i would just rip "as is"... and only remove the CSS, RCE, and macrovision....then keep everything else...in case you wanted to watch both the theaterical version and director's cut version...

btw...i use DVDshrink...and i don't think it has option of keeping which version of the movie....i think you had to keep everything, including the multi-angles/seemless branching

    --------------

even in the old SVCD days...for movies w/ hard-to-rip multi-angles/seemless branching, you could rip the files "as is" and load it into FlaskMPEG...since it has its own IFO parser, you can select which "angle" you want in FLASKMPEG and then frameserve into tmpgenc.....this way, you don't have to rely on the ripper to remove the correct angles/branches...

dvd shrink in reathor mode is the best thing to remove the angles

it will show the same title twice

but one will say angle in parentheses

    don't pick that one

  14. @vance43211,

what happens if you want to keep the angles....(i.e. you want both versions of the movie)

or if there's seemless branching with behind-the-scenes footage...does re-author mode allow you to keep all that??

    -------

so far, i've exclusively used "disc backup" mode cuz i want to keep everything...

    you can

but with the multi angled commentaries movie i rip using other programs

    they wouldn't play right

    when i burn them

so i personally don't fool with it

i use shrink to take them out

it's way quicker than using any other program to strip them

i don't understand why they don't put the commentaries in another vob file

    like they usually do
