Hi I just wanted to share my experience with this wonderful program. I have been a dvd decryptor/instant copy and dvdcopyxpress user for several months ,now I was shown by a friend clone dvd and I was impressed big time the transcoding and burning process took 1 hour and it just made instant copy look lousy when compared to time and burning quality. I am totally convinced that clone dvd is fast becoming a heavyweight contender in the back up world and im leaving ic behind for dvd decryptor/clone dvd because when I used dvd 9 discs for backup with ic I would always run into problems but when it came to clone it handeled everything I threw at it with no bugs whatsoever so my vote is for clone dvd..

I too like CloneDVD a great deal.

I use it paired with AnyDVD, so it's even FASTER if you can believe it.

However, there are times when I want more control than CloneDVD gives me, and then I use DVD Shrink.

But yes, I think that IC is going the way of the dodo, unless they release an update that makes it like 500% faster.

I find the quality to be better when doing a low-compression transcode. And I expect it will improve overall as Olli updates it. Problem is he spent a LONG time getting AnyDVD going, and troubleshooting it. But now that AnyDVD is pretty stable I expect CloneDVD updates quickly.

Spiderman, have you updated to the latest AnyDVD?

I too had trouble with DVD2One + AnyDVD in earlier versions.

I too had ANYDVD problems until I updated to the latest version. Now it works great with all the software I use it with, e.g. InstantCopy, CloneDVD, DVDShrink, etc.

  8. I too like Clone DVD. It's nice to be able to just rip the movie but still keep the full menu structure and extra soundtracks. I just wish it would allow you to put a simple picture slide of, say "Not Available On This Disc" instead of a low bitrate grey screen that lasts for the running time of the removed file. However the "dummy" files it creates are still much smaller than DVD Shrink with it's "Still Pictures" mode, so it allows for the most bitrate to be used for the actual movie.

you can replace the gray file with anything you want as long as you use ifoupdate and ifoedit to get vts sectors.

  10. from the authors site FAQ

Does CloneDVD support DVD-5, DVD-10, DVD-9 and DVD-18 DVD movie?
CloneDVD support DVD-5(SS-SL or Single Side Single Layer, 4.7 G) and DVD-10(DS-SL or Double Side Single Layer, 9.7G). Currently version does not support DVD-9(SS-DL or Single Side Double Layer, 8.5G) and DVD-18(DS-DL or Double Side Double Layer, 17G) but will be available soon anyway.

    K2,

It READS DVD-9... it just doesn't support BUILDING 9GB images.

And there's really no point to THAT, is there? (Since there's no such thing as a dual-layer burner!)

OK, this is news to me. So say I have replaced the "gray" vobs with small 1mb placeholder vobs, what do I do next? I open IfoEdit ... and what then??

  14. Hi there,

Do you know where I can download CloneDVD from? Is it a trial version and if so how long is it good for?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm failing to understand. It DOES DO 2-layer movies... it rips them.

It will not CREATE a 2-layer movie at this time because that is STUPID for the target audience. JEEEEZUS people how hard is this to comprehend?

    Y'know what? Lemme test it.

Ok, I'm putting in Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, Extended. Total size is 6.89 GB. Hold on...

    CloneDVD says...

"Creating DVD Files". No, I'm not gonna wait a half hour for this to finish. IT GODDAMNED WORKS.

Why do people keep insisting that it doesn't do dual-layer discs? WHY?

  18. Thanks for your help Gurm.

I have CloneDVD ver 1.25 Trial Version and Elby Clone DVD 1.1.7.1. Do you have to have the full version in order for it to do DVD-9 DVD's?

When using the 1.25 Trial Version it says in an error message that CloneDVD doesn't support DVD-9 at this time.

When using the Elby 1.1.7.1 version it is looking for video files on my hardrive (which there aren't any) Again, do you have to have the full version in order for it to work?

There is something I am doing wrong and would like it know if anyone can help me out.

Are there any guides that would help me out as well.

    Thanks in advance.

Why??? Because they say so on their web site:

just a guess as i don't use this software

maybe it's saying that it won't burn a dvd 9 disc

  21. I don't think so, it says it supports DVD-10 which can't be burned to DVDR

CloneDVD support DVD-5(SS-SL or Single Side Single Layer, 4.7 G) and DVD-10(DS-SL or Double Side Single Layer, 9.7G)
I'll stick with SmartRipper and DVD2one.....

  23. Nice proggy,very stable,dont even need video/audio TS folder???

Rip/Strip with DVDShrink & CloneDVD does its magic

  24. What is the point of the software if it can't convert a large dvd to fiit onto a DVDR???? I mean DVDDecryptor is free and it can rip and burn a DVD-5 so why would anyone pay $45 for something that basicly does the same thing as freeware apps?

  25. LOOK! CLONE DVD CONVERTS ANY COMMERCIAL 9Gb DVD DISC DOWN TO 4.36Gb!

I DON'T KNOW WHY YOU SHOULD THINK OTHERWISE!

.... sometimes you just have to SHOUT ....

  26. Actually, I think its a great program. Simple, quick. Yeah I'm sure that there are better apps out there but what CloneDVD does, it does well.

People don't use clone from a bad taste from the old program..
    It didn't work
and on at least one system of mine, crashed the OS permanently (98se)

GREAT TO SEE THE NEW one works

Don't you need to have a small microsoft component called .NET to let the new clone work?
I've heard some people won't reccomend that you install .NET tho'

  28. btw, there are 2 programs called CloneDVD.
the one from elby wich does of course dvd-9 to dvd-5 copy, and one from another company (the 1.25 version) wich does not !!
    dont mix them.
look here for the "real" one: http://www.elby.ch/en/products/clone_dvd/index.html
