  1. I just updated my system and now have HT, and was wondering how I go about making sure that its being used to its full capacity. I checked the guides, and their website, but not much info given.

I went to Enviroment setting-and there was a box I could check to use Multi CPU's and its set at 2, but then there are some other check boxes I dont understand. I'm at work so I cant list them off my head, but could someone give me some pointers.

    Thanks

    click off "use hyperthreading"

close and re-open and it should show 4 cpu's

it should show 4 cpu 's also in task manager

you must use win XP ..

you must enable HT in your BIOS ..

some programs run much slower with HT , so be aware ...

  3. HT is already set in my BIOS, I will try that other thing when I get home

And for what you said about programs running slow, is that with it set in BIOS, or turning it on in TMPgenc? Sorry but I'm new to the HT world.

what version of tmpgenc are you using ---- it says 'hyperthreading' in my version , 4 cpu (under CPU tab)

then check off everything in "multithreading" , prefetch video (1/4 of your total memory)

cache (lots -- i set mine to 10 gig, 5 is prob.. enough though for most people)

  6. Plus 2.5, and under my CPU tab it just lists Multithread, and it says 2 CPU's. Any ideas?

  8. I have 2.53.35.130, which I just downloaded and updated mine, and I'm not seeing it. I do see the Multi Thread thing, and it says 2 procs.

And some of those options you listed arent on there either.

Did they take stuff out on a new release? Is it possible to get an old copy of the one you have?

    man this sucks.

about 40% + speed increase if you use HT and the settings i posted above , using 2 pass -- compared to non HT and default settings .

  15. I have a 2.4 HT with 800 FSB with some PC3200 RAM and to convert a 9 minute clip it takes about 3 minutes, sometimes alittle less, sometimes alittle more. Coverting a 31 minute clip took 11 minutes and so on.

Quite a jump from what it used to take.

The best part is my motherboard supports up to like a 3ghz CPU so this fall when prices drop again I might pick up a new CPU.

    Oh and thanks again BJ_M

When you say a clip, what kind?

    2-pass VBR, CQ or CBR
What resolution? VCD, SVCD or DVD

What was the source? DVD, AVi, etc

I did a 1 hour and 20 min Divx to SVCD using QC, motion search set to high and fast resize last night and it took about 5 hours on my 2GHz P4

    Thanks
    Quote Quote
  18. sorry I didnt post all the info

The source was wmv and I did CBR to VCD for the 9 minute clips.

I dont remember what the other ones source was, but the output was at the same settings listed above.

I'm sure the time would increase if I was converting to DVD or SVCD.

Ask you boss for a comp with dual-channel DDR. It's cheaper.........also, ask him to get a 533FSB comp. Also, it will give you an excuse to get a better comp for home!

  30. What does the cache setting do? Does it always increase the conversion speed regardless of project coversion setting or do you have to turn on multi-pass VBR or something of that nature?
