Are the disks 4X like you think they are, or 2x falsely labled as 4X?
I think I read something about that with the 1x disks of somebrands stealing a 2x id from some other brand to try and fool a player into burning them at 2x.
Perhaps a similar problem has ocured with your 4x disks only being a true 2x?
Have you tried other brands of 4x yet? -
i have'nt tried other discs.
the ones i have are discrite but on their site it says they are 4.7gb but according to nero they are only 4.383 gb.
also the discs look pretty cheap (well they were cheap lol £1.09)
it says 4xbu40058892 on them is this just a con to make them look like 4x?
as i said i'm pretty new to this i would like to think i've got the dvd re writer working properly and i've just made a newbie mistake of buying crap dvd's (although they do work, just at half the speed i thought they would) -
The code you have (4xbu40058892) means that they are a 4x Princo dye disc. and you can get them a LOT cheaper than £1.09... try 74p
Anyway, i'm not sure why they're only writing at 2x, but i just thought i'd confirm that the are infact genuine 4x discs for you.RealaT Bytes, but that's what life is. -
DVD-Rs are allways same size - 4489 MB or 4.383 GB (GB = 2^30 B), whitch makes ~4 700 000 000 bytes or 4.7 GB(GB = 10^9 B).
A bit confusing? Same is with HDs - 60 GB has only ~55 GB space not because file system takes up space, but because different gigabytes are used (2 based one has actually name Gibibyte, but nobody uses it). -
Ok, speaking of firmware, but not wanting to get off topic too much.
Mine is a Toshiba sd5002 I think, close to that anyway.
What's all this about firmware updates to make 1x disks write at 2x, and a 2x drive write at 4x, and is that reliable for most drives and disks?
I mean it seems we already have some disks people are having trouble writing with the stock firmware at the correct disk rated speed. Or disks not being relaible after writing sometimes.
I have some princo 1x and my drive is 2x, so should I be able to update the firmware and write those at 2x, and if I get problems with the new firmware can I go back to the original?
Also, is there a danger in using a 4x disk in a 2 burner? I have seen warnings about needing new firmware for certian drives or damage can occure at disk sales sites. I would have thought the burner would just write at 2x on the 4x disk, same as useing a 48x cd in a 16x burner, no problem you just write at the burners speed!
Thanks -
@ zak_swan,
I have the same recorder and I have never been able to get the 4X recording option to actually work. Or the HD-Burn, for that matter...
Optorite is actively corresponding with me but has yet to determine why there is no 4X compatibility with my unit. -
as the optorite DD0203 re writer is quite new maybe we will just have to wait for the correct software or buy more expensive discs indolikaa. have u read about it on the dvd writers feature?
-
Burned 3 4X disks on the Optorite drive (2) here at work.
1 Fuji 4X-R on 1 drive
and 2 TDk 4X +R DVDs on another drive & Machine.
You didn't mention what brand disk won't burn at 4X.
The Fuji wouldn't even try to burn, Nero 5.5.x.x, until I upgraded the firmware. Then 15 minute burns.
Good Luck -
@zak_swan
Haven't looked into it yet. Since it burns 1X and 2X with no major problems, I wasn't too worried right away. However, seeing that I purchased this drive because it would do everything, it would be nice if it DID everything.
@TBoneit
I'll try Fuji and TDK both. I just ordered some Taiyo Yudens last night, which Optorite guarantees will work. We shall see. -
i bought some gogo -r dvd discs which the guy in the shop garaunteed would write at 4x on optorite........... they wrote at 2x
i dont want to have to purchase expensive dvds to write at 4x
maybe i should of bought the pioneer 106
