  1. I'm using Dr.DivX to convert my DVD's to AVI. Everything works perfect except my audio. In the ripping process I can hear my DVD-Rom drive speed up and slow down, Could this be effecting my audio?

When the encode is finished the audio speeds up and get's all weird. Is there a setting I need to fix for my dvd drive or maybe an alternative audio ripping method?

    Thanks,

  2. first of all dont rip the dvd 2 avi with the dvd is in the drive.
use smartripper or something and rip the vob files to the hard drive first.
IMO dr.divx is not worth 50 bucks or even 5 bucks.
i've heard people having problems with the audio.if you realy want to use dr.divx then ask that question at the divx fourm.
i suggest you use something better like gordian knot and its free http://www.doom9.org/divx-encoding.htm

  3. Ok now I ripped the Vobs to my hdd, And everything played fine. I then converted to DivX and the audio still comes out weird. It plays fine for awhile then skips and goes fast at parts.

Now Im trying to convert the ac3 sounds files to 5.1 wav and mux it in the avi. Anyone have a better idea?

  4. i would suggest using the mod of virtualdub which can handle ac3 and (MPEG2)vobs - it's in the tools section.

(because the mod can't support multiple vobs, you have to use smartripper to rip the DVD into just one vob file, but setting the filesplitting big enough - you'll have to have an NTFS drive to do this)

That way you should be able to use the DivX (or Xvid) codec of your choice, and the audio one you want too (try lame mp3).

FlaskMPEG can also convert from ripped vobs to avi output.

flask & vDub are (in my humble opinion) much easier to use than GordianKnot.

    cheers,
    mcdruid.

If you want to burn your avi's to CDR don't ues pcm/wav audio. You'll wind up with 500MB audio files instead of 50Mb's. Convert your ac3 to mpa or keep the ac3. There's a freeware program called AVI_MUX that can multiplex your avi video and mpa audio.
It's very easy to use and does an excellent job.
