I am trying to rip the movie "Doomsday Gun" using Smartripper. This is a region 4 DVD. Smartripper starts off fine by reading all the files but after I press "Start" it begins "searching key" and this goes on forever without it finding the key. I am therefore unable to rip this DVD.
Is there a solution to this problem? I really liked the movie and would like to make a copy for personal use.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Their is a chance, because ur drive is not region 4, u can't get it. Brute Force DeCSS seems to rely on weak sectors. I bought a region 2 movie and halfway through the ripping their was no vulenerable sectors.
Try DvdDecrypter. -
If DVDDecrypter fails try DVDShrink 1.03 - Copy Files.
I had the same problem. This worked for me.

try playing the DVD in your software DVD player (i.e. winDVD or powerDVD) for a couple of minutes right before you're about to rip...this helps to unlock the drive...

as for smartripper taking a long time to search for the key...i've encountered that on older versions of smartripper...just wait...go do something else...i've seen smartripper take nearly 5 min to search for the key...maybe even longer :P
