If you go into Radio Shack and tell them what you're looking for, they'll give you the right adapter. The one I have is so simple you have to look closely before you can tell there is an adapter on the cable.

Just tell them you're trying to go from RCA Audio to mini-jack. Don't forget the Y cable if your VCR is stereo.

The first pic I posted was not a solution, just an Illustration of the type of plug that will go into the computer's sound card jack.

Then I posted links ----to first a cable that replaces your
    "RED & WHITE"cables completely

Then I posted a link to the device VANCE PICTURED..the adapter that uses your "RED & WHITES"

There is such a cable. A 6 inch pigtail, RCA to s-video came with my Voodoo card, s-video tv out.
Where you can buy one, I don't know, but the Shack is probably a good start.

It would be a cold day in hell before I paid 40 bucks for that!!!
A short one came WITH my vid card.
If you have a small computer shop nearby, ask them.
If there any shows scheduled in your area, check the cable vendors.
If I find one at my favorite local shop, where I get all my cables at mebbe 1/4 what the big stores want, I'll send it to you for cost + shipping.
Or, maybe let you deal with them yourself, if you'd prefer.

    Watch this post!!!

go to your nearest radio shack. better yet go to their warehouse store

if dcsos version was a discontinued version
and they have some, it will probably be 5 or 10 bucks

  26. Here is a picture of the cable to connect from RCA to SVHS
    http://www.biltema.no/products/product.asp?iSecId=535&iItemId=39269
Prise is about $8 or Euro

You can also use an adaptor (male RCA to female SVHS) plugged into VCR that cost about $4 and a SVHS cable

or a RCA cable plugged in VCR and an adaptor (female RCA to male SVHS) on the other end, also $4

IMHO this the device, you are looking for:RCA to S-Video.
Don't confuse this with S-Video to RCA!They are not the same.

  29. @skip2mylou

The adapter you got a link to is what you need, but I find it very expencive compared to the $4 version I have found

The cable is called "S-video adapter cable" and the adapter, "S-video adapter"

Dragonsf says that "RCA to S-video adapter" is not the same as "S-video to RCA adapter". What I know is that the one I payed $4 for, is just that (have tried both uses), but that may not be true for all products.

I am using it to connect my digital cable TV-tuner with only RCA video out (like your VCR) to the S-video connector on my ATI AIW Radeon (30 ft. S-video cable)

That must look awful. The cables are great, but too thin to carry full signals at that length. I had a hard time finding a 6-foot cable, and cannot imagine where'd I get a 30-foot one. Most of them are 3 feet long.
