I am working with the EVAL of this program. Have created a DVD (actually, files in a directory...haven't burned a DVD yet, due to this problem)
I tried to have the main menu be a Motion Menu, by dropping a small MPEG on the menu. It gives a message about being a motion menu.
Actually, the motion menu itself is fine, providing the motion. Problem is, that I added 'buttons' to the menu by clicking on the bottom icon titled "Insert Chapter Still", then dropping the movie or sub menu I want it to link to (I don't see any info on the help docs about this, so, maybe this isn't supposed to be how it works). At any rate, when I generate the files, the menu does NOT show the stills, but only completely transparent squares on the menu that only show up as fairly transparent red/pink squares when I mouse over them. They work, but are not visible.
So, I decided that the problem had to do with teh MPEG I used for the motion menu. So, I deleted the background, and dropped a background from the Backgrounds tab on the menu.
When I generate the files again, even though the new background shows in the project, it still generates the menu with the old MPEG motion menu, and still does not work.
Any ideas about this problem? Is the rest of this program this problematic? I got fairly strong influence to try this program by others, but it's hard to be impressed.
I can say it appears to work very well with MPEGS as source, whereas I cannot get DVDWS to work at all...always blows up...if I use MPEGS as source. Although, I can say that if I use AVIS as source in DVDWS, I am very successful creating motin menus, motin buttons, DVDs, etc. I decided to try this so I can work with MPEGS instead. But, I'm 'bout to give up on working with MPEGS as source.

I ran into almost the same problem...trying to add chapter points as stills to my menu 2 (motion menu also)...got the same pink/purple (colorblind...lol...) squares...it's almost like you need to create some transparencies(S?) in the motion menu for the stills or clips to be visible...searching for a way to accomplish this...
and I still stand behind DVDLab as a superior authoring program... -
try this guide...

I couldn't get it to work right for me...but I don't know too much about AVIsynth... -
I don't believe this works the way you think.
Read this: http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/tutorial/motionmenu.html
Objects on a motion menu are subtitles (therefore have a limited number of colors). Any program that does picture in picture stuff is doing video editing and encoding video for ya. DVDLab does not do this.
You can however create motion buttons using DVDLab and some free tools. Try this.
