Yes, it's quite funny to me sometimes when I actually shut down my PC and leave it off for a day or so once every three months, and I come back in the room and turn it back on. It sounds like it's from teh year 1889 and it is gas powered or something! It's so damn loud! This site is hanfy, but if I were to purchase everything they have available, it would cost me lots. And they are in the UK, eh? All of their prices are in pounds and not dollars... And British pounds are worth more than dollars, so a high price in pounds only means a higher price in dollars. Good site to know about, though... one day when I have surplus money and I don't plan on upgrading anything in particular, I will probably start buying these people's super quiet stuff.

the only noise my computer makes that bothers me is a grinding sound when it the cpu is under heavy use.
-
Yep... mine does that crap, too. But before that, my power supply fan, my motherboard fan, and the heatsink fan are all going sick and it sounds like a damn remote control car or something. It's like a high-pitched wurring motor sound. Always in the backround... Like, in order to cancel that out, I have to turn my speakers way up and get yelled at by my parents all the time. My sound system is pretty sick, too...

I was sleeping the other day and the power went out. The UPS died and the way I knew the power was out was that it got quiet all of the sudden. And the computer is in another room!!!! Couldn't hear the UPS beeping over the sounds of the fans and stuff. I don't feel right unless it sounds like a tornado in my loft. Don't know what I would do if it was quiet in the house. Probably turn ensomniac or something like that.
-
I have just one suggestion. Works great, costs next to nothing.
Earplugs (one pair)
-
I find the PSU creates the most noise. Its like a constant whirring, it does my head in.
-
I used to get annoyed at the dang comp noise, so one day I decided to turn the freakin' speakers off and listen, and I tell you what, the comp actually had some interesting things to say. If your comp be making a lot of noise it's just trying to get some attention.
-
Hehe... I know. My PC reads me bed time stories to get me to sleep EVERY night. It never fails. Always there making its noise...
irc.webmaster.com port 6667 #DDR -
i cant sleep without my comp on... i hear all the creaks and bumps in the night. i love the loud ass hair dryer noise
-
ummm, I have 6 fans in my computer, never really bugs me, but my computer is in the living room, so I just crank the THX certified receiver higher, 5 speakers and a sub woofer has no problem with six tiny fans in a computer.
-
Why, just to hear the "windows clicking sound" even louder in full THX?
hehe.
vigilante,
my computer flashes morse code at me through its HDD LED.
-
Hehe... I don't know why, but my bright green Power LED died on me after I got a new mobo, which was the same exact mobo I was using, except it had RAID. At first I was mad, but then I noticed the first night I went to sleep after the new mobo was in, that my room was actually dark when I was going to sleep... crazy.

My computer is fairly quiet, and I was totally blown away when I first heard the HDD crackling sound... Almost nothing! Compared to my old computer's HDD, this one is nearly silent (well, that's because the fan is a little noisy). Other than that, it's humble.
Oh, and I opened that bad boy up (the computer, not the HDD) to see the guts, and boy, that thing is empty as hell!!! There is so much space for... anything, I don't know why they have to give it such a large case for what can be packed into 3/4 of the size.

How in the hell can you sleep in the same room as a running PC? Your room must be about 90 Fahrenheit, 120 Decibels and have an ambient glow from the LEDs. Mad. Mad. Mad.

lol, yeah... You are so right. In the summer it gets to like 90 degrees here in Rhode Island. So I always have a giant box fan going, just to add to all of the insane noise in my room. Ever since I was like 14 I have had my PC up in my room, because I used to have it in the living room, and no one would ever leave me in peace. I couldn't listen to any music when people were watching TV, and the TV noies drove me insane. Also, my parents didn't like going to sleep at 10PM and leaving me in the living room for who knows how much longer. So we all agreed I should move my PC to my room instead. So it's been almost 4 years since I've had this loud, bright, hot machine in my room. And after I upgraded to my 1400Mhz Thunderbird... boy has it gotten MUCH hotter in here! Now winter is upon us here in RI, and my room is guaranteed to be the toastiest on this side of the USA!
They should look into Video Encodes on an AMD machine as a new source of heat for the world. It is more affordable than having a huge electric heater that can cause a fire, and it's very productive, not to mention fun if you play counter-strike on it. So now you can live in an igloo, and be real warm as long as you have 300W of electricity flowing through. Hehe...

LOL!
Dude, you need to get out more.
You are insane. Bet you could look at more porno when you moved your "radiaitor" to your room. hehe. -
Nerd
Bet you port surf all night as well.... like me. hehe -
Hehe... yep. Look at the profile. I am your "friendly neighbourhood computer nerd". Port surf? Guess I am not that hardcore of a nerd, eh? Don't know what that is! But yeah... I am so damn nerdy, that I accidentally overexposed myself to pr0n, and now it has no effect! Oh no! Hehe... Clothed women do more for me than naked women. Lucky me! Cause everywhere I look, there are clothed women!

Get yourselves some good speakers, I have som Altec Lansinc with subwoofer and I never hear any strange sound when my computer is on or off.
-
Why do I want to listen to a clicking sound over my humming fans? Also, I find it hard to sleep with my PC on, speakers wouldnt make it any easier.
TIbr0,
What kind off self-respecting computer nerd doesnt know how to port surf? And if you dont even know what port surfing is, then you dont know how to hack. Call yourself a nerd? LOL!!!
Port surfing is just connecting to another computer over a network (usually internet), on one of its ports. Type this in a DOS prompt:
telnet vcdhelp.com 80
press some keys and the enter when connected.
well done. You just connected to the web server of this site and got sent its error message. 80 is the port that web servers run on (normally). Other ports run different daemons (services). 21 is ftp. 25 is mail server. There are loads of others. Now, where is the fun in port surfing? When you realise that it can be used to gain unlawful access into computers (usually ones with lameass security, say in countries like er... Iraq. hehe). If you know what your doing that is. hehehehehehehe
Consider yourself a true nerd now. -
Ah, hehehe...
I used to have a port sniffer proggie when I used to play around with NetBus back in the day. I knew what ports were for and all that, and even that 21 is FTP and 27015 is Half-Life. I think any self-respecting gamer and warez lover should know this, too. Hehe...
Also, I believe in kinds of nerds. There are people I know who don't know squat about digital video editing on the computer, but could kick my ass in setting up a network and all that stuff. Then there are the RPG-playing nerds, that play on MUDs and all that jazz, and sometimes they play real book RPGs like AD&D and what not. All of my friends are nerds, according to me, but we are all different kinds of nerds. Oh, and we can't forget the Trekkies.
w00t! Tomorrow is the next episode of Enterprise!

Thought that you would have known a bit more about ports. What do you mean back in the day? Your only 17! LOL. Mind you, "back in the day" in PC terms was last week.
-
I love listening to the "noise" created by my PC... well, you've got to know I've got a 3-month old baby suffering from colic most of the time...
-
Precisely! Since I am so young, 25% of my life ago was what I call "back in the day". And also, I call Windows 98 back in the day. Hehe... I am on XP now.
