DVD+R but not DVD-R

Ok, I have a Sony DVDnc665p that Im having an issue with and can not figure out.
Ive been backing up some DVDs ( they just dont play right with syrup on them)and the problem Im having is if I use -R media they will not play but if I use +R media they play flawlessly. Im using an Optorite DD0203 with Nero 5.5.10.42. The Nero write project Im using is mostly UDF/ISO but Ive also used DVDvideo with the same results. I also have a couple of other DVD players that will play the +-Rs either way I author them. This is not so big of an issue, the thing that bothers me is the DVD player says right on the front +R -R and RW playback. Ive also tried various media including Memorex,TDK, Verbatim all with the same results. Any thoughts on this Thanks

Select UDF ISO 1.02 and see if that works.

Some Sony units are like this. *shrug*

My friends all have Sony DVD players - that's why I bought a +R drive.
