  2. 6 and 8 x burners are coming soon. The longer ya wait the less $$ ya spend or the faster the burner is so if ya dont need it yet ya might want to reconsider.

  3. I agree with HideOut but if you can't wait buy online you will pay at least 10% below retail and many dealers offer free shipping.

Yeah, but when the 6x or 8x burners arrive, are you going to advise him to wait for the 10x or 12x because of these same reasons? This is a vicious cycle. Just buy what's cheap now, and forget the future.

    CDFreaks reports:

NEC will introduce a new 8x dvd-burner. The ND-1500A, like the ND1100A will only work with DVD+(R)W media. This is remarkable since the ND-1300A (a combo writer) is very popular at the moment.

    CD-RW 10x CLV
    CD-RW(us) 16x-24x ZCLV
    DVD+R 8X ZCLV
    DVD+RW 4X CLV

  7. I'd say a couple months. Real 4x media is <$1 each now so 4x's are worth having finally.

IMO 4x burners are fast enough to do the job, but, yes, agree - the faster the better...
I bought NEC ND-1300A the other day and am very happy with performance, compatibility ( dual standard supporting +/-RW ) and price ( CAD$250=US$166 ).

I'd vote for NEC-1300A over Pioneer or Sony at this time.

It would have been nice if the NEC 1300a was out when I bought my second Sony after the first one went belly up. I could have saved a bunch of money and got a better burner.
