OK not sure at all if this is the correct forum to post this on, i see software playing, i see conversion, but no general encoding / encoder software forum

Simple enough thing. Having to use a different machine for encoding duties at the mo as my own is a little messed up, bit slow, bit argumentative, but it works. Had to download things afresh, so, for one thing, I now have the latest version of TMPGEnc.

And suddenly, it keeps getting out of memory. Especially when I realised that new download on 'virgin' machine = reactivation of MPG2 trial period and tried to make an SVCD, but it also did it trying to code two VCD movies at once. It's got less memory than my normal machine, but it's not a huge difference (192mb?), plus it manifests even if no other programs run on this one.. and I've had all kinds of crap going on at the same time as two MPG and one divx encode, along with an audio edit, painshop and web on the other machine.
Using system monitor, it inexorably chews memory until there's about 800mb allocated, all the physical memory is used up, and the swapfile is full (limited to the same 512mb permanent file as the other PC - never use more than half that file usually). Memory recovery utils such as powerstrip can help a little, but only if i remember to come in every hour and manually trigger them off..

So what's going on? Anyone else run across this? More experienced types offer any suggestions as to how to fix it or where to get an older version? It's that or the screwdrivers to get the disc out of the ill machine or hunt thru backup CDs to copy an older, less leaky one over.

gah.
