  1. I am editing my camcorder footage together with high-quality (4 mB) jpeg stills. I am currently using Pinnacle Studio 7 for this but the stills in the end product are not very good. I used the same stills in a slideshow with Ulead PictureShow 2 and the quality was much much better. I assume this is due to the quality of the encoding. I also understand the resolution limitation on mpeg but that wouldn't explain the big difference in quality between Studio and Pictureshow. I tried using Studio to make only the AVI file and then Tmpegenc to encode to Mpeg but the quality was still not as good as that made with Pictureshow 2. Does anyone know a good NLE program that retains good quality stills? Anyone tried this with VideoStudio?

Well, this what Video Studio 6 gave me for a JPEG still I captured from a DV capture:

  3. I have the SE version of Videostudio 7 and will try that. I like that program, but I like the volume mixing controls of Studio better. Does Videostudio have good audio track volume control?

I am not so sure. Although it has audio controls, some functions like increasing the volume baffle me as I tried to increase a video volume eight times before I could hear it audibly. All it was was a soft-spoken lady.

I have caught footage with a Canon GL, and was planning on putting it on DVD, because of the high quality of it. But instead I just want to take a few stills from the video.

I tried using Adobe's Export Frame option, but the picture doesnt look good. I would load the video into Windows Media Player (Full Screen) and use the Print Screen button, but I get a black picture in the end.

How can I get high (DVD) quality pictures from my video?

PowerDVD, WinDVD, and Virtual Dub mod can capture still frames from a DVD.

No, I didnt mean from a DVD. I meant I'm going to make a DVD when I'm finished.

I've also used PowerDVD to capture stills, and thats no good either.

I would put the still in a photo application like Photo Shop to save it as a 720 x 480 image, then convert it normally with a program like Video Studio 7.

I'm sorry if I seem a little confusing. I need stills from a video I recorded with a Canon GL. From there, I will make a project in Adobe and export that project to DVD.

But what I need is a program that captures the highest quality pictures from the video (that I caught with the GL).

So what you are saying then, is to use Video Studio 7 to capture the stills? So I take it, Video Studio 7 is the program that will capture the highest quality stills?

I would use VS7 to transfer the DV from the camera, and create my stills from them. Then use it to make my DVD.

Oh ok, so its basically an All-In-One kind of program. Thats good.

My only main concern is the pictures (stills) looking as good as possible.

    I'll try it out.

    Thanks for the help
