  1. why is it that some programs (MyDVD, DVDit, Ulead DVD Movie Factory, ect) can burn to a DVDR that can play in every DVD player i have ever tried it in, enen ones that say they cant play dvdr...

and some programs (nero, ect) can't?

it must be a software issue.... is it addressed in nero 6???

or am i wrong... (wouldnt be the first time)

nero should be ok now (latest 5.x version anyway -- people have been telling they dont like the new nero 6, never have seen it myself)

different programs burn slightly different in terms of things like error correction and such and also use different versions of UDF when burning .. sometimes it just seems like what phase the moon is in .. but often it is a certain media just doesnt work well in a certain burner or burning app..

I guess. Nero 5.5.10.35 works for me using DVD/UDF 1.2 but will not play in all players..

using the exact same media I get a working copy that plays anywhere (using ulead DVD movie factory)...

i dont know what the deal is... minus the moon or holding your jaw right

  5. Older verisons of Nero burnt DVDs in UDF 1.05 which is not supported on all standalones (esp older models) as UDF 1.02. Some older standalones also have trouble playing discs without an AUDIO_TS folder (even thou many commerial discs don't have this folder).

So yes how you burn, and how you author does matter. I personally do not like/trust Nero. It seems that for every bug/error they fix you find 2 more. Updates are common and fix these issues, but it's a never ending process. If you weren't here before DVDR discs came down in price there were several problems with Nero and SVCDs (ff/rew, scandata, etc).

I personally use ImgTools + DVD Decrypter (both freeware). But use whatever works for you and just leave it at that

  6. The newest version of Nero 5 seems to work well. I have it and I use it for vcds, svcds, and dvds. Plays on everything. I haven't experienced any bugs yet.

BJ can you get PRASSI to recognize your A05?

Also it won't recognize the SONY 500 so I use RecordNowMax
    for my own BURNS

    and
    NERO 5.something for commercial back-up

  8. The newest verison of Nero 5.x does work. But Nero 6 once again introduced a list of new bugs This is pretty much par for the course with Nero. But again, if it works for you there's no real reason not to use it.

  11. @vance43211,

it's a combo of the physical media and the authoring program...

i bet if you use those 2 apps on crappy, lousy media...compatibility will go down

sure it has no problems ... here is the latest update (for both recordnowmax and prassi which use the same engine)

    http://support.sonic.com/Downloads/files/pxEngine408.exe

I just noticed that Sonic took the prassi name off the download support page in the last week or two .. but this same upgrade version worked for prassi ... if somehow they disabled prassi updates -- let me know because i have the same version - but for sure includes prassi support .

UDF 1.02 (more compatible) vs. UDF 1.05 (less compatible)
