when i hit brouse to open the avi file it says *.avi can not open, or unsupported whay is this?
What do i do

This could be due to a number of reasons. The most likely I recon is the audio in the .avi is compressed.
The best thing to do is to download AVI2VCD, in the .zip file you download there is a program in the folder called 'decompress' or something similar.
If you load the .avi file into the program you can create a new, similar .avi without decompressed audio.
After you have done this you can load it into an encoding software package like TMPGEnc and you should be able to encode it into a .mpeg and create a VCDYAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
