  1. I have an NEC DVD+RW 1100A and a SAMSUNG CDRW/DVD and am trying to copy a DVD-R. I have tried doing a simple disc to disc copy using Nero and RecordNow Max. Nero reads it fine but when I put in my DVD+R it says not enough space on disc. I put a DVD+RW in, and it copys fine without any errors??? When I try to play it back on my stand alone dvd player it freezes half way through the movie. RecordNow wont even read the DVD-R.

I then tried backing the DVD-R up with Smartripper and DVD Decryptor. They read it fine but an error saying "read error: cyclic redundancy check" comes up half way through. I have even tried just copying and pasting the files on to my hard drive, but no joy . I have managed to get 3 of the 4 VOB files on to my hard drive using Smartripper (Files option) but the third one out of the fourth wont budge .

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried ripping your disc with NEC? I have Sony Dru500A and LG DVD/CDRW combo and my LG drive thinks my DVD+RW discs are over 4.7 Gb, no problems when copying the disc image with Sony.

If you continue to experience problems you can try to make an iso image of the disc you want to backup using DVDdecrypter and use the same application to burn the DVD+R.

  6. There are no scratches or anything on the original dvd-r and it plays fine on my PC DVD player, my stand alone DVD player, and XBOX, and what do you mean ripping the disc with NEC. There is no firmware available for my DVD+RW drive, I have already looked. I'll try the ISO idea, will report back if I have any luck
    Thanks

don't do disc copy for already burnt movies as it dont work with most recording programs

instead in nero, burn as a dvd video

navigate to the VIDEO_TS folder of that dvd drive and add all of the files

this will take a long time

    then burn the disc

nero will ignore the mark errors this way and only receive
    the dvd files

i would explain to you why that happens
but then some people will get on this forum
and tell me that i am wrong. this has happen
before to another poster and my advice
helped the person fix his problem. but
i had 4 or 5 guys telling me i was wrong
because it didn't say it in the manual.
when i know for a fact that i was right

you should be allright with this method

if not, there is something wrong with your disc

  10. cyclic redundancy check means that there are bad or unreadable data sectors on your disc. I would re-examine my burning methods if I were you and use better software to record or change brands of media. Try testing that disc, and maybe some of your other discs, in Nero's CD Speed "ScanDisc" test in File Mode / or Surface Scan and see where exactly the errors pop up to help determine the source of the problem.

If you find you can't get past the unreadable part of the disc,
USE CHOPPER XP to open the file on the DVD-R directly
go to the part just before the error..and MARK OUT

now save the VOB to the hard drive without the bad end
Now copy all the other VOB's and files, remembering not to try to copy the one that you already copied the first half of...
Chances are, the DVD will still play without the end of the file there..
It worked for me to recover a bad disc

    Vance43211 says:

navigate to the VIDEO_TS folder of that dvd drive and add all of the files.
This will take a long time
If you know the computer trick of holding down the shift key and highlighting all the files at once, then dragging them to the window to be burnt, this takes no time at all.

LOL! Popee, that is not what he means. of course you can hold shift and select all the files. the problem is that nero "caches" all the files before it writes them, and that takes a long time

  16. I'll try the Chopper Xp thing and I have tried creating an image with both my drives. Recently I tried copying just the third VOB file to my hard drive because I have the first two, using DVD Decryptor. Sometimes it gets to just 4%, then 19% and finally 83%. It just wont copy the whole thing.

  17. What version of Nero are you using? I know that some older versions of Nero had a problem with this type of error code. I would update to the latest and try again.

  20. I wash my disks with water & pat dry.....they work but you can't do much about scratches & anyway, why don't you try the dvd playing it from your HD first?

  21. if you find that there are scratches on your disk, use Plege on em, I prefer lemon, but the wax in the pledge fills almost all the scratches and allows for play
