As far as i knew the only accepted video bitrate for a standard VCD is 1150Kb/s (1150000 bps). Now I have these .dat files that have been pulled straight off a store-bought VCD and given to me. I played them and found that they were 1140Kb/s (1140000 bps). Is this also an accepted bitrate for a standard VCD? They were pulled off a PAL VCD if that makes any difference.

  2. if those .dat files were taken from the /SEGMENT/ directory, then it's ok, those mpeg streams have other bitrate constraints (you can even have 384kbit/s encoded mpeg1 layer2 audio on a VCD2.0 disc... which allows for a few hours of high quality music on a 74min disc..)

  3. actually, i think according to the standard, there's a narrow range for the video bitrate from around 1123kb/s to 1150kb/s.
