  1. Once again a newbie asking for some advice......

I recently bought a TAEC DV-W50E dvd writer which came along with 25 Datawrite Classic 4X dvd's. So far out of the 25 i have managed to burn 20 coasters.

I have been searching the forums to find out what I'm doing wrong, but havent yet managed to find the answer.

My problem is that all the DVD-Rs work to a certain point in the movie and then they just stop and go back to the menu. Just before this happens i usually get lots of pixelation and the picture freezes but the audio continues.

So far i've tried, Smartripper, DVDdecrypter, Recordnowmax, Nero, and even DVDshrink since some discs have problems writing to the end of the disc (so it says in some forums).

Is this all down to the media, and if it is can anyone point me in the direction of which to use, as my better half aint to happy that i have to spend all this money for new coasters when we've now got plently in the house.

Go buy some good quality 2X recordable media. Practice at 2X until you get desireable results.

It's 96% probable that your problem is the media.
It's 3% probable that your problem is your new burner.
It's 1% probable that your problem is the software that you are using.

    Smells like media to me.

To verify, make a backup that's ...oh 3.5 GB and burn. If you don't get the same problem, it's media.

  5. Thanks for the replies.

I have already tried using dvdshrink to make up a movie of about 3gig to see if it is the problem with the end of the disc and had the same results.

Looks like it could be the discs then eh!!!

  6. Just been looking around to find out more info.

My DVD player is a thomson DTH210, which according to the list on here doesnt play dvd-r. But does!!!!

Another site I've looked at suggests using Maxell dvd-r as they have tested them on my writer and player and are compatible.

    Off to the shops then.........................

i personally use cheapo 1X Princos i bought for $0.81/DVD-R after taxes and free shipping.

so far, only 1 coaster out of nearly 150...and that was my fault for doing something stupid on the comp while burning...

but otherwise, Princos are working quite well...and my pioneer dv333 seems to be able to read them fine. a SMALL percentage of them do exhibit the "outer edge" problem..but my standalone seems to be able to overcome those problems...

if i were to play the "outer edge" on my PC DVD-ROM, the problem never even occurs.
