  1. Question to all. I've had good success capturing off an AIW Radeon and made VCDs successfully with Vitualdub and TMPEG 12.

I followed the guide on VCDHelp for SVCD. I captured at 720x480 (no frame loss) and used the template and the instructions. When I play back, I get a motion jitter on the DVD player. Basically motion seems to flicker back and forth. The subject matter is animation.

Using the Ligos encoder (demo edition), I don't get the jitter, but the $$'s required to buy it are a turn off.

Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong or what to try? I've been through the settings but only have a pile of unworkable disks. I've tried the same of Chicken Run off the site, and that plays fine.

Try reverse the field order under the "Advance" tab when you encode it to SVCD with TMPEG. That sloved the problem for me. Hope this help.

  3. You can test for proper field order in TMPGEnc this way:
    1. From main window, click Setting
    2. In the MPEG Setting window, click the Advanced tab
    3. Take note of the Field order setting
    4. Double click on Deinterlace
    5. Under Method select Even-Odd field (field) and step frame by frame thru some of your video.
    6. If motion is jerky, return to MPEG Setting and select the opposite Field order and repeat 4-5.
The correct field order will become quite apparent after you try both ways.

You might also want to try to set the Encode mode on the Video tab to Inverse 3:2 pulldown

  4. Thanks to Body Double and Just G, that did the trick.
