  1. I see tons of posts about paying MORE for discs you can find in stores and not many posts about Ritek discs. Ritek discs are cheaper online than TDK, Verbatim, Sony, etc. and work great. Just curious why a lot of people choose to go to a store and pay $0.50-$1.00 more per disc.

Because Ritek 4x won't burn at 4x in my Sony. Memorex & Verbatim both do, and during sales I can get them for the same price as the Riteks.

and most of the time, cheaper.

not to mention when things don't work, it's pain in my a$$ to return/refund the goods (+15% penalty!) to online stores. absolute no pain with B&M stores.

  4. I personally use Ritek 4X, and have used TDK 2X in the past. The reason that I think people are split on the issue of using such media is that, as stated in this thread, it's much easier to take faulty stuff back to your LOCAL Bestbuy, and not ship them to Eastern Kalamazoo and pay the 15% fee on them. Another thing that people consider is that they can afford to "wait" for the sales at local retails stores and stock up on the same disks that they could normally buy online at a given price any day of the week. I pay about $1.40 for my Ritek 4X online from Rima, but I can go any day of the week to Bestbuy and buy TDK 2X for $1.89 each (in case I'm ever in a bind).
As I always say in this forum regarding DVD issues, and as is my motto in life: You get what you pay for!!

  5. I've bought TKD 1x/2x and Princos 1x/2x/4x. I personally have NEVER had problems the princo discs. Some people have, but _I_ have not. To each their own. To come on this forum and ask why everyone isn't using Ritek is like asking 'why isn't everyone using Sony monitors when they are CLEARLY so superior to all other brands."

Which is clearly a statement of opinion, not a statement of fact. And there's really no point debating it. I have what works for me, you have what works for you.

I have ritek 4x and they aren't compatible with my sony burner. (they only burn at 2x max)

so i prefer using disks that do burn at 4x

  9. They are all Ritek with different labels. All dark violet DVD's are manufactured by Ritek.

All I have to say is this, If you have a Pioneer A04/104, nothing and I mean nothing, beats Ritek G03, at Price, quality, and compatabilty.

I don't know about other burners except for the Pioneer A05/105, in which case the above is also true of the G04 4x media. These discs play in xbox, playstation, and every other DVD player I have ever tried.

I have brought over 100 DVD-Rs to various peoples houses, and have never had a playback issiue.

Now, I am aware that there are many other burners that don't react the same to G03s. That is another discussion entirely. The question might be "Why would you buy a Sony when you can own a Pioneer"? LOL.

totally agree with you cplevel42, Riteks for the money are best disc going round. I noticed when all else failed on the PS2, a copy on Ritek worked perfectly. I swear by these. Fortuntely i own a Pioneer burner.

I used to use the Ritek G03's until the price increase. Then on advice from others on the forum I made the switch to Optodisc both gold and blue tops with no problems what so ever. The Riteks go for 50% more $$ than the Optodiscs right now.

  13. again...repeating myself...

no such thing as 100% compatibility...

if you think certain brand is 100% compatible...it is NOT....even if you played it successfully in 1000+ dvd players...there will be another 1000+ dvd players that can't play them

    ---------

btw, i personally have had very (and i mean very) few problems with cheapo, 1X Princos ($0.74/DVD-R).

Riteks weren't always good. Only recently did I give them another chance. I'm happy with them now. Zero coasters out of 65 burns.

Same for Princo. They used to not be good. The 4x discs are fine to me. One coaster out of 250 burns. No more anti-Princo complaints here.

People buy at the store because it's safer. I got screwed by fake Maxells and fake TDKs online. When I bought bad Verbatims (CMC) a while back at Office Depot (Max?, Staples?), I took them back for a refund, something I could not have done with wherever.com's online store. Until Ritek (clearly marked as Ritek, not some hidden Media ID code on xxx.brand disc) sells discs at Best Buy, don't expect it to change. Some people refuse to buy ANYTHING online, including most of my family.

When quality and reliability is the top priority, I still shell out $$$ for Apple or Maxell discs at the computer supply store. They've NEVER let me down to date.
