    high guys

    first off ....please redirect me to a link explaining this if there is one

    i have come across several files(.avi and .mpg) encoded in 4:3 aspect ratio....but within the ratio is a widescreen format(various) with black bars on top and bottom to fill in the screen..i would like to edit the file to match the original ratio

    can somebody give mw a walkthrough on how to do this

    also is there a way to tell what the ratio was?

    All I can give you is...
    ...if you encode an avi using TMPGEnc you have the facility to crop the top and bottom black bars.
    I know it's not much but hey, it's a start.

    IF what you're looking to do is encode without the top/bottom black bars, I'd do a screengrab of a frame, import that into a graphics editing prog and note the actual dimensions of the screen minus the black.

    From there, it depends what video editing program(s) you use, whether or not the original is interlaced or not, etc. to know what steps to take to encode the way you'd like the final result to be.

  4. I use TMPGEnc's Crop function to determin the actual frame size (minus the bars) and then use avisynth to cut, resize, etc. You could let TMPGEnc crop it for you, that would probably be the easiest way.
    Ejoc's CVD Page:
    DVDDecrypter -> DVD2AVI -> Vobsub -> AVISynth -> TMPGEnc -> VCDEasy

    DVD:
    DVDShrink -> RecordNow DX

    Capture:
    VirualDub -> AVISynth -> QuEnc -> ffmpeggui -> TMPGEnc DVD Author
