I was wondering if anyone that runs WinXP did a dual boot or upgraded. My mobo has an ALI MaGiK 1 chipset which conflicts with my ATI Rage 128. Unless I boot into safemode in win98 or win2k and install the drivers, my system will hang. So how can I boot into a VGA or safe mode in WinXP. Right now I am trying to triple boot win98se, win2k pro, and winxp but am running into probs. So does anyone else have this problem and is there a way around it?

Well, I have never been a believer of multi-booting, so when a new OS comes out, I either upgrade, or I stay in the old one. 0 or 1. But, the safe mode thing... you can press the F8 key to get to the list like in Windows 2000, when that white bar is filling up. Except in Windows XP there is no white bar at startup, just a black screen for like less than one second, then the splash screen for about ten seconds, then the desktop comes up. So in XP you have to be quicker. I'd assume that multibooting is like when you're doing installation of 2K or XP, and you can select from a list. So my best guess would be to select Windows XP Professional, then press F8 as soon as the screen goes dark after that menu. The next screen will show a list of all your possible choices which include safe mode and the command prompt mode. Hope I helped you! Good luck.

I currently am running three OS's. The real key is to send each OS to a separate partition on your hard drives.
I have ME and 2000 on my main hard drive (C & D partitions) and am beta testing xp on another hard drive (slave to the main one). Reason for separate partions is so you don't create a conflict. especially when running norton and a firewall. -
I do see a white bar when booting with Windows XP. I'm running only Windows XP, none of that boot dual stuff. And yes, I do see a white 'status/progress' bar in the beginning before Windows XP's GUI starts...

My friend also sees a white bar, because he chose upgrade instead of clean install when I gave him the Devils0wn CDR. I did a clean install, because I don't like having residual files and stuff from a past OS... I get no white bar. My RAM check happens, then IDE chain checks, then RAID checks, then I get brief blackness, and then XP logo screen, and a few seconds after that, desktop. If you hit F8 during the blackness, or white bar, it acts like it did in 2000 Professional, and brings you to the menu.
What do you all think of XP? I like it a lot. It's hell of a lot faster than 2K in most all activities... especially booting up.

I got XP a while back... it is pretty good so far...
I have been running into some problems with my video card and Half life... But all in all.. I'd say its better than 2k.. -
Well speak of the devil. It's the white bar man and his HL glitches. I too suffer from massive internal OpenGL leakage from the upgrade to XP. Stupid Matrox and their "Nya nya, we're not releasing XP drivers until after the OS comes out!"
Well last time they said that, they waited until a month before the NEXT OS to come out to deliver half-assed drivers for the almost current OS. Hehe... They released crippled Windows 2000 drivers for my Marvel on June 12th. I installed XP back at the beginning of August...
