I am encoding DV AVI files with TMPGE, the DV file is Type 1 and TMPGE loads it ok and encodes ok but there is a little quality loss with the encoding. I find constant 2520 bitrate gives me the best quality video and sound. I tried 2-pass VBR and I think the video quality was less and the sound was not so good.
My question is, when I encode DVD to SVCD I seem to recall changing the sound settings to a lower amount maybe 44 or less can't remember as I now use DVDTOSVCD for DVD disks. Can I free up some bitrate by changing my DV 1 file to DV 2 file and then resampling the sound to a lower figure thus giving me a bit more bitrate for the video?
I can get VERY good quality from DVD to SVCD using DVDTOSVCD and wondered why I am lossing some with my DV files. The DV file played direct from cam to tv is acceptional. The burned SVCD of my DV file is good but does not seem as good as dvd to svcd and yet the DV source is of great quality.
