I am trying to make a DVD using footage from a DV Camcorder. I can capture this using Pinnacle 8 and MGI Videowave 5, edit it using both these packages and create a DVD using both these packages, however the DVD will only play on PC.
I have tried to create it both with and without menus. I now have about 10 coasters.
I have also tried the follwing in Pinnacle, each time with the same results:
-Create Movie, render and burn to DVD.
-Create movie, render and set to burn later (burn using Nero)
-Create movie, render and set to burn later (burn using pinnacle)
-Create Movie and convert this to MPEG-2 file then create dvd content and burn using Nero.

I know that my home dvd player can play dvd-r's as I have managed to successfully rip a dvd using DVD shrink and play this.
My DVD birner is a panasonic and my home DVD palyer is a Limit.

Has anyone got any ideas as to why I cannot create a (legitimate) DVD to play on my home DVD player?
BTW the DVD will not play on my friends players either..

    Thanks in Advance

  2. Did you put all your DVD files into a VIDEO_TS folder then burn that folder? If not that's the problem.

    Bob,

    Thanks for the quick reply.
I did put all the files in the Video_TS folder. When created using the burn later option (pinnalce) and Nero (to burn DVD content) I also removed the Anchor and Volume files as required.
This problem is seriously baffling me.

  4. Some players will not play a DVDR if it has not been closed or finalized. Someone with Studio8 experience will perhaps have the answer for you.

Ok, but did you name the folder VIDEO_TS
It HAS to be in uppercase letters.
There also has to be an AUDIO_TS folder as well.
So on the root of the DVD, you should have the following two folders:

VIDEO_TS (This contains all of your .vobs and dvd stuff)
AUDIO_TS (This is empty, but the folder has to be there)

    Good luck.

  6. I have an idea why it plays on PC and it doesn't play on standalone.

But first tell me two things

    1. Does the software player say it is a DVD or plays as MPEG?

    2. What settings you used when burned with Nero?

Correcting start sector addresses is only need for standalone DVD-Players.
A standalone (settop) DVD player access the files on the DVD over UDF-sectors,
while a PC accesses the files over the ISO filesystem, and so the PC doesn't care about start sectors.

So you need to correct this sectors just if you want to burn a DVD-R, and in that case right before burning the DVD-R.

jthompson99 - The folder is labelled correctly. Nero Creates these anyway. Both the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders are present. I have also tried it without the audio folder.
The strange thing is, is that using DVD shrink and Nero I can copy a DVD and play it on my Home DVD player, therefore I am quite sure that my DVD player has no problems playing DVD-Rs. It seems as though I am doing something wrong somewhere.

Does anyone has a surefire way of getting my Camcorder footage onto DVD (using alternate software if necessary) so that it will play on my home dvd palyer? As mentioned before I can play DVD-Rs, it's just that I bought the DVD burner for legitimate use, bu tthat seems to be the only thing I cannot do with it!

    Thanks

    Tompika:
The DVD is recognised as a DVD and not an MPEG
    The Filesystem is UDF

When created using Nero I have used the follwing methods:
-The create Video DVD option from the Wizard (created the video_ts and audio_ts folders
    and
-Create a DVD-ROM (UDF) and tell it to use UDF 1.02..also tried with UDF 1.50.

I think if I can't get thsi to work I'll go buy another DVD player and maybe upgrade my burner to the new Pioneer 106

  9. Before you buy another player try to correct the navigation files.

    1. DVDFab------Correct DVD sectors

    or

    2. IFOEdit-------Get VTS sectors

It should work after doing this, read my previous post.

yeah I was going to suggest IFOedit. Also I think you could just use DVDshrink to re-author your files and it will correct any sector errors.

Bob, correcting the DVD sectors takes one second with FAB while running DVDShrink through takes at least fifteen minutes and totally unnecessary.

And let me tell you that I have to correct DVDShrink's job sometimes when adding some extras to the main movie, and I also use this trick after joining different VOBs.
