I purchased Pinnacle Studio 8 A/V which came with their DC-10 analog capture card. Since that time, I also purchased a DV capture card which came with Ulead VideoStudio 6.

I've always captured using Studio 8, but would like to try the Ulead software as well as the freeware Virtual Dub which I've heard so many of you highly praise.

With Studio 8, I use EndItAll2 and close any screensavers, wallpaper, etc. prior to capture. But, I've never been able to get a full capture with 0 frames dropped. Depending on the quality of the VHS tape, the best I've done is 30 frames dropped. I would like to see if I can minimize frame drops using these other applications.

My problem is that Ulead recognizes the DC-10, but gives me an error every time I try to capture with it. The same goes for Virtual Dub.

Can someone advise me if the DC-10 is even compatible with other softwares. Do I need to load a different driver? Whatever advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

i believe ulead have a help page for this problem.
i have dv now but had same problem using dc10+ with mediastudio 6 and i had to type a line into one of the text files in ulead program folder and it worked a treat and i was able to capture using mediastudio,
haven't been there for a while so i'm sorry i haven't got link to page but i would expect they have same help page for videostudio

I don't think you'll ever get DC10+ to work with VirtualDub.
The DC10+ board does MMJPEG encoding in hardware and apparently that gives VDub indigestion. I'm even surprised the previous poster got it working with medialab 6.

I suggest you try to figure out first why you get dropped frames with Studio 8 - even if you manage to get the DC10+ board to work with another capture application there's no guarantee that you'll have zero droped frames. Try to install the board so that it has its own IRQ, not shared with other devices. The dropped frames might result from that.

Also, if you decide to reinstall the board and the software, make sure you use Pinnacle's application to clean up registry settings, and reboot your machine AFTER removing the board before reinstalling stuff again.

    Thanks for the tips.

I'm using WinXP Home and was advised that I shouldn't have to worry about IRQ. I've tried to find out how to see if the DC-10 is sharing an IRQ, but after many failed attempts have chalked it up to me being inexperienced in that area.

I think I might just go out and buy a universal analog capture card. One that would work in Studio 8 as well as any other application.

I have only used Studio 8 since a started down this road many months ago and I'm starting to think there are many other applications that can give me superior results without all the hassles and bugs associated with Pinnacle.

APART FROM THE BUGS AND THE TECH SUPPORT, STUDIO 7/8 ARE VERY WELL LAID OUT EDITING PROGS.
DON'T GET ME WRONG, THERE ARE ALOT OF THINGS STUDIO WON'T DO BUT FOR GENERAL HOME VIDEO EDITING YOU CAN'T GO FAR WRONG, IT'S JUST THAT STUPID CARD THAT STINKS
THAT WAS THE MAIN REASON I JUMPED TO DV THOUGH I STILL USE STUDIO FOR EDITING AND NOW AND THEN USE MEDIASTUDIO FOR MORE COMPLEX EFFECTS,
IF YOU DO BUY ANOTHER CARD I RECOMMEND KEEPING STUDIO
