you'll find those guides over on the left under "How To: DVD Rip"

if it's a single layer dvd, the easiest method is to rip as an ISO with DVD Decrypter, which will burn the ISO to a fresh disc, and is freeware.

dual layer, you have to decide what you are willing to give up - extras / menus / multiple audio tracks etc. or some quality.

    read the guides.

  3. I second using DVD Decrypter.

You can tell if its a single layer by going to "My Computer" and if when you select the drive the DVD is in it will say 4.38Gbs or less. If double layer, >4.38. Hope this helps.

And if it's over 4.38 gigs. You can download a free program called DVDShrink which will transcode the files down to a size which will fit on a recordable dvd. Then burn the transcoded files with a trial version of Nero.

    All free!

    DVDshrink guide...good stuff: http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/dvdshrink2-main.htm

    DVDshrink is:

    1) the fastest

    2) FREE

    3) but, not the best quality
