  1. Wow! I read through this long thread, only to find out nobody actually gave this guy any technical advice, besides legal ones Is this a legal forum? Come on, guys!

I have done some divx/xvid/3ivx to mpeg2 conversion recently. It is a messy process, and messier if frame rate change is involved. It is hard for newbies to do it. I'll just show how I did it.

Use VirtualDub to extract audio from AVI file(s). Encode audio separately.

Use Avisynth to run filters you need. If you need to change frame rate, you have to disable audio. See AVisynth manual for details.

Frame serve your script to your favorite encoder. You may need to wrap your AVS with an AVIWrapper, if you uses MainConcept. You may have to change color space if AVI is in YV12, CCE2.50 can't handle YV12, although CCE2.67 can.

And don't forget to compensate change of playing time due to change of frame rate when encoding audio, otherwise A/V synch problem will occur.

    Good luck!

  2. have you guys seen the new commercial to stop piracy? the one with ben affleck? I dont condone piracy but I cant help but wonder if people would still steal if they didnt spend 20 mil$ on ben affleck to say a couple thousand words. But stealing is stealing.

  3. I think most people just reply to that email without reading it. Maybe if we had something on the posting page that said "don't name what movie it is, no matter what." Maybe that would help. Maybe we should also have on that page, "do not tell where you got the movie from". But....If we had that maybe it would look like we were condoning warez.
I agree with your last comment about it looking like we are condoning warez, because basically is saying wink, wink, nudge, nudge, I have this movie but I was told that I cant say the name of it (actually, somebody would actually end up writing that, I can see it).

This site does not allow people to discuss warez. this inclues bootleg movies. I have read (and that is probably part of the problem) all of these posters, some new members some old timers bitch and moan about how its unfair and why dont we yell at the people who are murdering in the street and blah blah blah. Here it is, BALDRICK (and I am speaking for him) DOES NOT ALLOW PEOPLE TO DISCUSS WAREZ. No iffs, ands, or buts about it. I dont know what it will take to get it through everyone's head that the person or persons that OWN this site do not want to get shut down because some person just HADDDDDDDDDDD to ask how to convert an illegal movie, which in turn causes the site to get shut down.

BALDRICK and (i am going to speak for the majority of the posters here without their approval) most of the people on this forum do not want this site taken down or, possibly have them sued over who knows what. And even if it wasn't about that. BALDRICK DOES NOT WANT PEOPLE DISCUSSING WAREZ. If Baldrick wanted you to call him god in order to be a member of this forum, then so be it. If you want to be a member, you must call him God.

this rationalization of piracy is a joke to (and this is a build up of a number of other postings). Piracy is just that, piracy. If you can sleep at night pirating movies, great. Its like bitching at the cop that gives you a ticket for speeding (which you were) and saying why arent they out getting the druggies and murders. Quit it!!!!!!! Sure there are people that say don't pirate movies and they themselves do it. NOT THE POINT!!!!!!! Don't do it on this website.

Now, I still would like to find out how the mods can effectively emphasize that warez in any form is not allowed on the site. Could the original poster or anyone else for that matter offer some suggestions.

but give the guy a brake.
he just wanted some help, so you can help him, or not.
but dont decide that he is guilty right from the start.
please read the thread. I told him he should re-rip from the original disc, rather than trying to go through some convoluted method of conversion on an Xvid.

He opened his mouth and out popped the fact that he's bootlegging it.

I didn't assume guilt from the start, the movie has been out for months in the UK, and in fact I provided him with a link so he could get his own copy.

as far as helping him, I'm more concerned in this case of keeping this board warez-free, so someone with a legit Xvid conversion question doesn't show up months from now... "gee, where'd dvdrhelp.com go? they must have been shut down..."

i read what you both said
and still dont understand what you are talking about.

HE DID NOT SAY THAT HE WANTS TO MAKE THE RIP FOR HIMSELF.

IT WAS YOU THAT DECIDED THAT IF HE DIDNT MAKE THE RIP HIMSELF

THAN HE SHOULDNT BE TALKING ABOUT IT HERE.

did you rip this to Xvid? re rip it from the original disc.

if you did not do the original Xvid rip, you shouldn't be asking this question - read the forum rules.

that's the problem. he does not have the movie. therefore, he cannot legally make a back up of it. plain and simple. do you need me to explain it to you more?
    His name was MackemX

What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend?

  7. Wow, a lot of reading.. Let me try to break it down. The guy came in and asked how to warez copy a movie (knowingly or not). Ok, so he blew it. Maybe he didn't read the agreement (now I know nobody here has EVER done anything like that). If he wants to hit up another site for help, there's other places that would be more than willing to help him. OR, hand the guy a yellow card and say "don't do that anymore" and send him on his way. At least he didn't go "Gina" on everyone.

he DID say that that he doesnt have the original.

but he didnt say that his friend doesnt have the original did he?

    did you ask him?

no, you just decide that he is doing something he shouldnt do.

i think he can talk his way out of this one, granted it will not look good,
but its possible, he still didnt stick himself into a corner he cant get out of.

here is one theory that clears his name :

a friend baught a dvd movie and converted it using flask into divx,
just because he wanted to try it out.
a few days later the kids somehow scratch the dvd movie and now he cant
rip it to make a back up of it.
his only option to ever watch the movie on a standalone player is to convert the divx into dvd again.
(good thing that he backed it up!)
he is not so picky on the qulity he ends up with, but he wants the best resolt that he can get out of his divx.

so he hands the cd with the divx to his friend to convert it to dvd,
because he doesnt know how to do it and because he doesnt have
    a dvd burner.

    possible? or not?

  11. @ glenn71x: Discussion of warez / bootlegging movies is not permitted on this forum. Please follow the Forum Rules / Acceptable Use Policy.

@ and glenn71x and all: there is no point debating / belabouring the point. glenn71x is a new member and he made a mistake.

@ heavensent: you can only make a backup of movies / content that you personally own. Providing a service of backing up someone elses content, whether you charge for the service or not is not covered by Fair Use and in general is not accepted in this forum either.

As far as I'm concerned, this thread is over and I'm going to lock it. If you want to know how to convert DivX / XviD / AVI to a DVD (e.g., downloading public domain video, trailers, etc.) then I suggest that you read some of the guides on this site.
