I'm not the moderators, but I have been here a long time and I notice that some people arent just asking about certain techniques anymore, just straight up asking how to "backup" such and such movie titles, probably because its giving them major problems or something.
I think this practice should be banned in the forum since it technically can be lumped into the same category as discussions about warez. Also, with the increase focus the RIAA and MPAA is paying to this practice, this just adds unwanted attention to this awesome site.
Yes, there may be some vague fair use provisions that "might" make it possible to "backup" your own purchased movies but that is still a very hotly debated item right now and nowhere near to resolved. I believe the only jugement that was rendered as fair use was recording from TV or radio which is on the public airways, it is still not legal to circumvent any copy protection (i.e. macrovision or CSS) to make your own copy so I still think it is illegal to copy your own movies whether you own them or not.
I have a hard time believing people are spending $15-20 bucks for some of these terrible movie titles mentioned in the forum, then spending another couple bucks on a disc and an entire night to "back" it up. In fact, I think its exactly the opposite, one person rents it, makes 30 copies for friends, and we are helping that kind of blatant piracy by allowing these topics in the forum.
Just my opinion...
