I'm having a rough time here. After converting "The Croupier" whilst I slept, I noticed one hell of a difference in file sizes. It kept encoding long after the movie was over and I ended up with a 2.43GB mpg! I edited it down with TMPGEnc and still had a 900+MB mpeg. I edited out the ending credits and it's STILL 875MB! What am I doing wrong? I know 800MB of VCD mpeg will fit on an 80min. CDR, but 875 or 900 sure won't.....
Any help is MUCH appreciated!

If you're using the standard VCD template it's 1min=10MB, so just do the math. When you say that it keep encoding, do you mean it was encoding a blank screen? If so that's a different error.
A 900MB MPEG means a 90min source. To fit a source that's greater than 80min one CDR you have to lower the bitrate (click on Tools to the left, and look at the vcdhelp.com bitrate calculator). OR you could spilt it on more than one CDR.

Thanks for the quick response!
And yes, my other problem was that it continued to encode a blank screen for another 1.5+GB!
The other problem I am having is, I converted a 7min. cartoon with TMPGEnc. Then I used Nero to burn a VideoCD, and when I pop it in my DVD player it says there's no disc in it. Should I try to .bin/.cue it with VCDImager?
I hate to keep wasting CDR's on all this trial and error....

Are you sure your DVD player can read CDR discs? Try making a music CD and see if you can play that. It's also possible that your DVD player doesn't like the media your using.
Check out the DVD Players list to the left and look yours up. -
Oh wow....I'm definitely a moron now.....My DVD player does NOT in fact read CD-R's....
OK, I'm removing my account from this forum now, hehehe!
Thanks for the blatantly obvious tip, friend!

Hey!! I'm having the exact same problem as Init6 is having. I'm trying to encode The Pledge and having exactly the same out come. I have made many successful VCD's but for some reason I'm having trouble with this one. The AVI is a DVD rip in Divx, don't know if that has anything to do with it or what. The lenght I end up with also is about 2.4G!! The length of the first half of the movie is around 72 minutes and the bitrate is some where around 1350 (for a 90min CD-R). Why is the resulting file so big???????
I'm currently trying the second half and it tooks likes it's going to happen to that also.
Please Help. -
Hey Init6,
Even if your DVD player doesn't read CDR's it may well read CDRW's. Give it a try.

I'll try the CD-RWs. I have an old 8x SCSI burner that doesn't do CD-RWs, but I'm getting ready to buy a new one anyhow. When I do, I'll probably buy a new DVD player as well. JVC has a great one (the model number slips my mind) that does all manner of CD-R/RW, CD-i, MP3s, and even DVD-Audio....
Thanks for the all tips, mates!
