I reecntly purchased a Canon GL2 camcorder and im just getting use to it. I made my first film of a family camping trip and unfotunately the sholder harness is hangin in from of part of my opening clip. I'm using premier to edit and am looking for a solution or method that will help me to either cut out the right portion of the clip or a way to put a frame around it so that the sides cannot be seen.
    Any suggestion will be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    VC
    This is so much fun!

  2. Hey
First get your clip into the timeline. In the timeline top right corner, you have the razor tool which is placed at the top left corner of the tools (press "c" if you have windows). Then with the razor tool selcted just move to wherever you want to cut the movie and cut it with the razor. Delete the unwanted stuff and move the clip that you do want to the beginning of the timeline. Then export the movie by pressing
file -> export and there you have it.
There is a way to cover up a part of the frame, but it takes a long time and makes the picture smaller. If you rather do that post another post.

Good --only if its MPEG-2 Premier won't cut it! literally
It will only work to cut MPEG-2 streams made with a interal capture card to MPEG-2, as Premiere doesn't edit MPEG -2 too well

also on Premiere 6.0, and 6.r the ICONS Zapata spoke of are ON THE UPPER LEFT and the razor tool is the leftmost of the tools grouped on the upper left of the timeline.
One uses the razor carefully when the timeline is expanded out to do fgrame accurate cuts......after two such incisions are made in the time line, a right click of the REMAINING and UNWANTED video can be lifted out of the timeline
with any one of three commands

1.CUT..leaves the unwanted material in the buffer (YOU COULD NOW PASTE IT ELSEWHERE)
    2. DELETE..its gone and leaves a hole -the size of the mateial unwanted in the TIMELINE-
    3. Ripple Delete..same as delete ..but pulls up so the LATTER CLIP rushes foward on the tIMELINE to close the gap you would've left!

If its an MPEG-2 clip, try CHOPPERXP freeware (runs on 2000)

Hey, how do you like the Cannon GL2? That's the camera I want but don't have the $2 grand needed to buy it.

Zapta has one method, here's another. Before you drag the clip to Timeline, drag it instead to the preview window (I use single track editing). In there you can preview the clip and set the in and out. This will select the part that you want. Then just drag that to the Timeline.

Making a frame is easy. I use Photoshop to make the frame. Make sure the inside part of the frame is transparent. Make it 720 x 480 and save it as frame.psd. If you want you can extract a frame from the avi with the strap and put it behind the frame to make sure that it will cover it. If all is well, then bring the frame only psd to the timeline. Put it in the video track directly above the area you want to mask. Activate the transparency filter and set to white alpha matte. This will let you see the frame and show the video underneath.

Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........
