    I was told you have to have a DVD burner to burn VCD, SVCD movies onto a cd? Is this true. Im going to be use cd-r. If not do i have to have a DVD burner when using DVD cd's?

    you can use a dvd burner to burn cd. but guess what a cd burner can burn.

    OK, i said it wrong.
    Here: Do you have to have a DVD burner to burn cd-r/cd-rw. If you don't can you burn a dvd-r/dvd-rw with just a cd burner?

    sorry...i am totally confused...anywayz...here goes:

    a DVD burner can burn both DVDs and CDs

    a CD burner can ONLY burn CDs

    I'll type very slowly...

    with a cd burner, you can burn cds. this includes vcd, svcd and miniDVD (an out-of-spec format, but possibly playable on your machine).

    if you want to burn dvdr, you need a dvd burner, which will also burn all of the above.

    you can not burn a dvdr on a cd burner.

    does this clear it up?
