  1. I have several music videos that I have downloaded from newsgroups and most are in MPEG-2 format with m2v or mpg extensions. I can play these without difficulty in Windows Media Player but the playing time of the files is not displayed and the seek bar does not move although the elapsed time does count up properly.

WMP is using the Elecard 2 codec to play the files.

I use J. River Media Center to catalogue the files and this also displays the duration of the files as 0:00 which makes it impossible to create playlists and keep track of the total playing time.

Is there any other codec I can use, or a tool that will allow the duration of the files to be determined?

    Thanks for any help.

  2. Your problem is the Elecard Codec.

It displays an incorrect playing time or none at all and generally causes aud/vid sync problems.

There are many codecs out there you can use, just visit the tools section, and if you want to stay with Elecard try the Elecard Moonlight Codec as it has better features for the DVD format and apperently no vid/aud sync issues as well.

  3. Thanks Pixel.

I switched to the Ligos Codec and solved both problems.
