I am a newbie and have just recently joined the forum to get a problem solved but ended up solving my own problem before the 24 hour period before I could post had passed. I decided to post this information here just in case any other newbies miss the product report I'm going to make elsewhere on the site. I had an AVI file that I wanted to burn in VCD format, after coming here I downloaded TMPGEnc and made the attempt. The result was a pair of error messages: "Index of scan line is out of range (208)", "Illegal floating decimal point calculation order". I then decided to let NERO convert and burn and see what happened. NERO changed the aspect ratio and seriously degraded the video quality! So I did a general search for ""convert AVI to VCD" in my search engine and one of the results was Cucusoft AVI to VCD (www.cucusoft.com). WOW!!!!! What a product! The user interface is almost child-simple; thus, this software is not neccessarily for the expert, (not horribly customizable) but it did the job . . . perfectly! The result almost rivals DVD . . . alright, maybe that's pushing it a little. I am very happy with the product and have since had a problem with converting a different file. I reported the problem to Cucusoft's service department and recieved an answer within LESS THAN TWO HOURS!!!! They gave me simple instructions on how to retrieve the log file for the failed conversion and had me send it to them so they could look into it. Overall thus far an excellent experience. You can download a demo from their site, it will convert one minute segments of video to give you an opportunity to test it out (it can grab a one minute chunk of a larger file). The full program costs about $20.
