  1. ok, I tried to make an scvd with nero 6, but it kept freezing after it finished encoding the file but before it burned it to an 80min cdr. I think now the problem was the encoded file would've been too big. but regardless.
I just used tmpgenc and got the divx file encoded to an mpg. my question is when I burn it to cdr using nero, do I burn it as a video cd choosing the svcd option or a data cd? I'm thinking probably data, but I want to make sure and not waste another 3+ hours on nero.

  2. nope....

you need to use nero's SVCD template to author your .mpg as a SVCD. most dvd players will not read raw .mpg files burned as DATA CD. if you do, most likely only your PC will play the .mpg file.

most DVD players require the file/disc structure of authored (S)VCD discs to play those .mpg files.

    ----------

max 795 MB .mpg file can fit on 1 80 min CD-R.

  3. nero will recognize it as an mpg and not try to encode it again tho, right? it took forever to do the encoding before

  4. don't ever let nero do the encoding...it SUPREMELY SUCKS at it.

as long as your .mpg file is a compliant SVCD, then it should be fine. if nero bitches, just uncheck "make standard, compliant disc"

  6. ok, I just burned it and tried it on my standalone dvd player and it didn't work. it kept saying no disc. I have an apex 1100w, and according to the compatibility chart that should play scvds. I looked on the cdr from the d drive, and it has five folders. I didn't create a menu when I used nero. should I have done that? or does that not matter, and the dvd player should've been able to see the mpg in the ext folder? I'm using nero 6.0 btw.

  7. do you have winDVD or powerDVD installed on your computer???

if you do, try to play your SVCD in your PC using either of those 2 programs.

btw, did you uncheck "make standard, compliant disc"?? try leaving it checked if at all possible.

also, how fast you burn?? try limiting to 4X and c if it helps.

one last thing, try your SVCD on a friend's DVD player and c if it works.
