If the blue lettering under Galactaca's name means that this is a moderator commenting then I have a problem.

If the yellow flag system is an attempt by the mods to get control of the board then comments by a mod in a threating manner should not be tolerated. If it was a trivial comment then the mods should get together and agree that the system should not be used for trivial pursuits.

Authority in the hands of the immature will not solve the problem. I choose to be immature but I am not a mod.

Just my opinion and not trying to be rude. But if this is the new deal then the mods should agree on a standard as it relates to issuing a flag or at least setting standards that are understood by posters. Trying to have fun with it at the mod level is sending the wrong signal.

  2. I think you're over reacting next... Didn't you see the "(JK)" at the bottom near the smiley? In case you don't know, that means "Just Kidding"

  3. Yes I understand. But authority has its requirements.

If its a game - great. I can play it. If its meant to be a serious attempt to control the board then I feel it should be simply that. Serious.

If in fact the system was instituted as a reaction to a perceived problem then there is no room for jest. If its a game. Hey why not. Let's all have fun.

I do not believe that was the intent. So at least at the mod level the games should stop.

  4. jeex edited his poll options after twenty-something people voted.

The second option I chose said something like:
Yes I violated the rules, warning remains, thread should be locked.
Now it says: "yes, i'm a tgpo **** smoker. my voting is biased".

    Is that fair jeex?

  5. I don't see any problem. If you wanna see out of control power wacko mods/admins go to the germanshepherds.com forum!

There's nothing wrong with mods and admins playing around, and if they were really pissing people off we are free to leave and go elsewhere. Internet Message board's are a dime a dozen...

So it's a game as it relates to yellow flags or the issuance of there of.

I appreciate your opinion and respect it but is this the position of the moderators as well?

i edited his poll to comply with the Forum rules / Acceptable Use Policy (AUP): You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-orientated

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=124514

I have no problem with the thread or poll -- but lets keep it within the AUP and not personal ..

    i didnt vote either ..

If yellow cards are flying for starting a pathetic political threads then this sort of comment deserves one too.

That was just an observation. What else could you think about someone who uses a phrase like that to describe themself.
    Dark booty out.

Yep blue lettering implies a moderator.

Yellow flag system is a way of notifying those users who are violating forum rules. such as

    Definite warnings given for
    giving warez.
    linking to warez .
    asking for warez.
Providing information how to obtain warez.
    Advocating warez.
Discussing illegal activity (ie copying rented material)

    Subjective Ways to get warning
    1. continuing to bump your topic(reply to your own topic)
    2. hijacking topics
    3. vulgar language
    4. violating smaller rules of individual forums (ie, politics in a off topic forum)
    etc.

Since there are a lot of moderators, there is sure to be some bias when it comes to the subjective ways to get warnings. But its generally understood that if you break a forum rule (the ones you see above your POST A REPLY) you will get a warning.

Are you calling me immature? As I would expect readers to notice the smile and the JK - just kidding would imply a humorous tone to the post.

There is a general agreement. You break the forum rules, you get warned. Keep breaking them you could get banned. Its hard with the subjective warnings, because again, its subjective to the individual mod.

In no way am i "having fun" If i really did give him an extra warning just for the sake of it that would be wrong.

Again, just trying to add a little humor to an already humorous topic.

    I disagree
I do not know if Jeex is a curmudgeon, but anyone who would conduct a poll, and when the numbers came in disagreeing with his stance, re-edited the questions so he would look good, has lost all credibility with me.

Next, I think your suggesting that Mods on the board should not interact with the users... being a Mod here is something we do, not something to we are paid for. We are all users of the board also, so yes you will see mods joking around, I personally see no problem with his comment, it was obviously a joke, I also don't see how his joke cuts down on the effectiveness of the system itself.

I joke about the police but I sure has heck slow down if I know there is likely one up ahead.

As far as anyone calling jeex an a-hole, I'd have to agree for the following reasons:

    1. He changed the poll to insult those who had already voted ("against" him).
    2. He started this thread. I don't know if there are any boards that get as many of these whiners as DVDRHelp. It seems as though everyone who gets a warning starts one of these "the mods *cough*tgpo*cough* are jerks, I wasn't wrong!" threads.

Maybe instead of a warning, there should be a "Get on with your life" card.
