Hello,
I seem to remember that we could get tmpeg for free. My schools wants me to encode files. I was very surprised to see that it's a trialware (basically 1 month free) I installed it over a week ago but was too busy to actually try anything with it ...and now I only have like 2 weeks left! Can anyone then tell me what freeware (we have no budget and I do this on my own time!) I could use to encode I will be using virtual dub (because I heard on this site that's a very good one) We would like the best quality so svcd (unless there is something even better?)We dont have a dvd-rw we have a cd-rw. So if anyone can help me to get those freeware and which one I should get too.
I also have a problem with Nero. I seem to recall nero was free but now it's also a trialware!? Please I need to start doing those encoding and this is not a warez (education purpose) I am looking for good freeware taht would do a great job. I heard Fireburner is also good but I dont think its a free ware. Any software that also have guides appreciated !![]()
I thank you all in advance for you help.

good guide: https://www.videohelp.com/sefy/?id=intro.html
i believe vcdeasy is free and can do what nero does
----
try re-installing tmpgenc and re-setting the expiration clock...maybe get another version and install that...
or do a search for "tmpgenc" and "registration" ... because i believe there were earlier threads on how to make tmpgenc's MPEG-2 support not expire. -
overclock what??? your CPU :P
anywayz...why don't u try uninstalling tmpgenc and then re-installing it.
it might reset your MPEG-2 trial...you might be able to get another 30 day trial out of it.
otherwise, do a search on these forums...i remember there were threads here that told you hold to remove the expiration on tmpgenc's MPEG-2 support. -
Thanks I will do that....Sorry if I sound unexpereinced (because that's what I am!!!)
Thanks in advance! -
np - TMPGEnc can be downloaded and used for free for MPEG1 encoding (MPEG1 is used in VCD), and the trialware part of it is for MPEG2 encoding (which is used in SVCD and DVD).
If you can't reset the MPEG2 encoding on TMPGEnc, you might want to try BBMPEG (see tools section of this site) - it does MPEG1 and MPEG2 encoding, and is totally freeware.
(There is a BBMPEG standalone encoder, and it also comes as a plugin which is included in most versions of FlaskMPEG - which is also freeware).
Nero is not freeware in the first place, but the SVCD authoring does not come with it as standard (although it does VCD as standard) - there is a plugin for SVCD, which costs extra.
poopyhead is right - a lot of people swear by VCDEasy to author (S)VCD's (instead of Nero) and it too is freeware.
go to the guides section on this site, and search for guides by those tools - BBMPEG (and/or FlaskMPEG) and VCDEasy.
cheers,
mcdruid
