Go to File Menu > MPEG Tools,

    select 'Merge & Cut' tab.

    Good luck,

    and for the next steps...

click Add to select the first file, Add to select the second file, etc. etc.

enter an output name for the new (joined) file.

    press Run.

if you want to change where in the file the join happens (ie you have extra footage at the beginning or end of the file), after you add the file to the list, double click on the file name and you can set start and end points.

be aware that TMPG can be picky about joining files that it didn't encode, so you may have problems with files encoded with other programs.

  7. IMPORTANT: remember to select MPEG-2 for the stream type. If you forget, it produces godawful results.
ALSO IMPORTANT: You should only try to join encoded MPEG-2 clips rather than cut MPEG-2 clips. If you cut an MPEG-2 file using TMPG and then join it with a nother cut MPEG-2 segment, the result will be missing some P frames and you will get a glitch of digital crud in the midst of a scene where you made the cut. I learnt this the hard way.
