That's one of the reasons why I still dual-boot XP and 98se. 98 is conected to the web and XP is not. XP allways has crap running in the background.

You might want to install ZoneAlarm. It's free and works great. Then the next time XP tries to connect, ZoneAlarm will warn you. It will ask if you want to let it connect, just say no and never ask again.

Ofcourse you could have a trojan or something.
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........

Ah, but the one advantage of dial-up is if someone does happen to gain access to your computer they're soon going to realize it's going to take them 4 hours to download a picture from your computer so they'll quickly lose interest

I've never had security issues with XP Pro, but I update weekly, run a full Ad-Aware and Norton scan almost weekly, and then defrag everything on top of it all. Ad-Aware is certainly worthwile. I wish Norton would add a similar program to their suite, like perhaps purchase the company that maintains Ad-Aware. It'd be cool to have everything integrated into one like that as far as system maintenance goes.
