I want to try my hand at making short films. Nothing on a professional level; I just want to play director/editor/actor and have some fun.
I'm looking for some inexpensive (ie. < $200) software for editing and authoring mpegs.
ULead seems to be a popular vendor of software...would DVD MovieFactory or VideoStudio be more applicable to what I want to do? I want to have total and independant control of the video and audio streams.
Thanks!

I personally like Video Studio. I like how easy it is to edit, convert, author and burn with it. It has a few nice transitions as well.

I recommend VideoStudio.I have ver.6 and it is stable, easy to use and "Smart Render"is a nice feature. If you want alot of effects then you should get Pinnacle Studio, but some people report Studio is buggy and unstable.

I have "VideoStudio SE DVD" ver 6. Is it different from "VideoStudio"?

Ulead VideoStudio 7 is a good choice.
The free trial download is here:

The "SE" versions usually come with fewer features than the full versions.
