On some newsgroups I often see posts designated by the abbreviation FTD and a number such as FTD######. Is this a database similiar to IMDB? Does anyone know where I can find this or what FTD means? Thanks!

this is from a forum that i cant post a link to.
i havn't tried to yet.i either skip it or sample it by the first rar or two.
You can download FTD at:
http://www.ftd.nu/new/
http://dadude.eternalnintendo.nl/FTD3.6/FTDv36Final.zip
http://www.xs4all.nl/~vdijk/_ftd/FTDv36Final.zip
This will give you 4 mirrors to download the file.
Open the auto-installer, and it will just be like a normal install. Accept the license agreement, and hit next till the end.
Go to the folder you installed it in, and click on FTDv3.exe
The program will come up with a pop-up box.

I'm not sure if you get an activation e-mail, but if I remember correctly you can use this account instantly.
- Enter your new made username and password in the Gebruikersinformatie tab.
- Configure proxy if necessary
- Goto the tab Categorie Filter, and select Toon alles.
- Leave all other settings to default, they are not important.
Explanation on the program:
FTD contains 2 sections. The main program and and remote add on. The remote add-on is the most usefull for you guys I think.
If you open it you get a pop-up box, asking for an FTD number. Just enter the number you found on a newsgroup, and it will come up with the real filename. If you click on that filename you will be directly transferred to the main program, and the full post info will be shown.
The main program contains 4 parts:
- FTD
- CHAT
- E-mail notifation
- Forum
Just use FTD since the rest is completely Dutch.
Use the button Updaten, to update the database from the server.
Use the button Switch to transfer back to the database list, after you selected an entry.
There is a search box, in which you can search for number or name (default setting).
The posts are marked with symbols
S means it's a spot, someone saw it in a channel, and wants to fill everyone in where they can find the file.
* means it's an announcement. Someone is going to post something in the near future and wants to give a heads-up, or want to do an interest check.
--> means upload. Someone is uploaden this file atm.
Check means the file upload is complete.
Cross means the poster nolonger supports the post, and will not be reposting any of the files.
There kind of an process for asking reposts. In general, you first have to reply to his post by adding a comment, and then you can mark a file for repost.
There is a kudo system which is no more then a way to express your gratitude for someone's post. Don't worry you can be in the red figures, it doesn't have any consequences.

Could be "Free To Distribute" which would be similar to FTA for satellite.
