  1. Hi all,

I'm trying to author my own DVDs. I'm using DVD Maestro and I did a nice job on the first DVD I've authored (I'm authoring basically from scratch).
Right now I know how to create menus with still pics but I'm trying to be more technical and I would like to insert either a video or a still pic before the menu actually appears on the screen.

I would like to know as well, how it's possible to create menus with videos (instead of still pics)? I guess it has something to do with sub-pics but I don't really understand how it works. On the first DVD I've authored, there were no sub-pics and the DVD worked fine.

Thanx to anyone who can help me!

since I don't use Maestro, I'm not sure how to do it, but what you are looking for is a "First Play" item before your menu.

In DVD Lab, you add a movie and connect the First Play button to it.

As far as your second question, are you talking about motion menus? a menu with moving video in the background, or moving clips for the scene selections, etc?

many of the authoring programs expect you to create your motion backgrounds in a video editing / compositing program like AfterEffects or Vegas, and then import them and add links and text in the authoring program.
