  1. Hello All, mostly new to this, so please can you give me simple answers, as not very sure about how to proceed, thanks.

I have copied my Digital video from my camcorder using Ulead Videostudio basic version 4. I copy them as MPEG1, and AVI.
Windows media player opens them. I can copy them onto a Cd-Re-writer which i use CD-RW to do this.
I am in the UK, it is PAL.

What is VCD, how do i get this, and what to do from start to get them to play on my DVD player, which can play Cd-R, Cd-Rw, etc

When i have copied the MPEG1 video onto a re-writable CD-RW, which the DVD says it can play, and can also read CD'S, the DVD player says, ERR on it.

I don't understand anything about VCD what it is, or what it does, or if i even have it on my computer.

Can you explain what i need, and how to get my DVD to recognise it.

Starting from Ulead Photosuite, what format like MPEG 1, do i save as?

On the computer the Video opens in Windows Media Player ok, on my re-writable CD-RW and can be sent ok through the internet and opened by most anyone.
Just having trouble with burning to CD so that it will appear on my DVD.

    Thanks from
    <marquee>GEP</marquee>

Hope the above works, the signature, can you let me know, thanks

Your marquee command does not work. Anyway, you have to read the VCD article by selecting the VCD button in the upper left corner. I could answer your question, but the information is already available for you there.

  4. Hello All, i have used my Nero 4 and used a CD-R to copy my MPEG1 created videos. I used the VCD option in Nero to burn, but when i came to play them on my DVD/CD/CD-R/CD-RW/ player, it went through the motions, no error message, just would not play.

    What am i doing wrong?

    Thank you

  6. Hello Tommyknocker & all

How did you format your MPEG-1 file?

I used ulead videostudio 4 se basic to import and render which turns it into a MPEG1 at my choice and also creates a separate AVI video file

The DVD player seemed to recognise it, as it did not give an error, and was looking for the video files to play it.

When i import the video from my Camcorder, i open Videostudio, I choose The Templates manager, also make sure my Capture plug in is recognised, then i click on MPEG1 320x240 30fps there are other options like 352x240 30 fps or 29.97fps and i can choose AVi DV Pal 720x576 25fps there is also something called AVI Cinnepak and AVI uncompressed.
I just choose the first MPEG1 option above saying MPEG1 320x240 30fps and click to save the setting.
Next, i click on New Project, give it a name, choose the destination to save, My Documents. Then, open my Nero 4 and choose Video CD and click New, then drag and drop my video files into the middle, click burn at 4x{600} then click burn, write.

I hope the above is enough information.

I have tried burning on CD-R and CD-RW the same, it tries if you know what i mean.

    Thanks, GEP

  7. Hello Tommyknocker & all

    Further to my last post.

I have created 4 separate MPEG1 video files which are burned to a CD-R, would this stop them from being recognised by my DVD player.
Would it be best just to place 1 on a CD-R, or does it not matter.

I have also experiment by, placing my MPEG1 video files on with these 4 ordinary ones VCD MPegav Cdi Ext these folders have when i have burned a CD-R been the only ones to copy, so i had to drag the MPEG1 Video files into the top part as well as the bottom so that both would copy.

    What am i doing wrong??

Please Look at my earlier post as well, thanks.

Thanks <marquee>GEP</marquee> hope this siggy works, lol
