  1. i use avi/mpeg/rm/wmv joiner v3.21 to join avi files together.
    with succes until today.

today trying to merge 2 identical dviX 5 files wich i created with virtualdub it gives me a stupid warning says that not all videos have the same quality and this may cause errors while merging!
i ignore this warning, try to procced but i get error trying to merge the files.

files are identical, video codecs, resolution, audio codecs etc...

is there any other stupid program that can do the job?
i mean a prog that dont need to reencode the stream again.

    regards

    Sometimes this works ...

Load the first part into VirtualDub
Then load the second part using the APPEND AVI SEGMENT command

Make sure VIDEO and AUDIO are set to DIRECT STREAM COPY

    Save your new AVI

This should work and will not re-encode.

  3. ******* me!!!

    i get this..

Cannot append segment:The video streams have different sampling rates(24.99663 vs. 24.99644)

how can such a small difference makes merging impossible?????

  4. the point is that i cannot merge the source files too.
they have exactly the same ridiculus small difference. 0.00019 KHz!!!!!

    seems that i must reencode...

    its ludicrous...

Yeah when the frame rate is NOT exactly the same you can't merge them. Do you plan on keeping this as a DivX file or do you plan to convert the DivX file to something else (such as MPEG-1 or MPEG-2).

The reason I ask is this ...

If you re-encode each DivX clip seperately to MPEG-2 (for example) with the extact same settings then you should be able to merge the two seperate MPEG-2 files together. I think this only really works though if you use CBR encoding and use the exact same BITRATE. If you use VBR (even with the same AVG and MIN and MAX settings) it might not work but I'm not 100% about that.

  6. no,it is a capture that i want to keep as a mpeg4 file on my harddisk.

finally i reencode the smaller first file with the exact frame rate of the
second file and then it was possible to merge.

    another waste of time.

    thanks for help.

It is possible that the first file (whose frame rate you changed) might now be ever-so-slightly out of synch. It probably won't be noticeable until towards the end of the file. Best to watch it and double check.
