    if i hooked up my standalone player to the tv tuner video in and recorded it threw Ulead to vcd would that be better quality then ripping the dvd to divx and then converting it vcd

    It is better to rip, although you should be able to go from DVD to VCD as Divx decreases the final output quality.

    By connecting it to a capture card you are effectively turning it to an analog signal, but by ripping it is completely digital, therefore better.
