  1. Both myself and a friend have bought the Pioneer 106's to replace NEC's and we both are having the same problem that the 106 will write to +discs but nothing will read these discs not even the Pioneer that writes them but - discs are O.K. The + discs used are Traxdata and Infinity professional and so are not cheap inferior types --any Ideas anyone or should we return the drives and go back to NEC's which caused no problems at all.

  4. Hi PhilipL
I changed to the pioneer so I could write -discs as well as +discs.(one of my DVD players that will not read +discs)
As for software I have tried the New Nero 6,DVD Decrypter (wont evan recognise the writer)CopytoDVD and Recordnow Max, all right up to date.
And what I sold the NEC for and paid for the Pioneer was only a few Pounds differance and I thought it was worth it.

  5. A lot of people here seem to like the NEC ND-1300a dual format burner and it sells for only $155 in the states.

  6. My 106 writes to + disks just fine -- and I play them on a wide variety of players. The fact that it won't play the disks it writes sends warning signals to me and makes me wonder if you're writing them properly (even if there was a misalignment you'd think it would play its own disks).

Try this: using Record Now (I think you said you had it) create a data disk and drag over the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders (and those only). Make sure Record Now is set to verify the write. Then burn the disk. Assuming the disk burns and verifies without errors, open up PowerDVD (or WinDVD) and try playing that disk. I would be *amazed* if it didn't play (and if it didn't, then you have a dodgy drive, which I would swap for another).

I really love the 106 -- rock solid and even a better dual writer than my Sony A500 (which itself is no slouch).

  7. Well this is now so strange, after using ForceASPI to update-I can now write and read to all formats + and - discs, and the DVD player I have that would only read one type of disc now plays all + and - discs that I write. And DVD Decrypter recognises my Pioneer.Could it be as simple as the ASPI drivers that were the problem--who know's,not me.
