  1. Hi,

I installed some time back a firewire card and VS (video Studio) SE on to my celeron 800 which only has an old matrox millenium 4 mb card and W2K. It was quite a while ago.

I have now built a new machine with Atlon 2600, and W2K with a
Chaintech MX440 graphics card with 64Mb and a 120Gb WD Hard disk.

I just moved the firewire card from the one machine to the other. W2K
recognises the card immediately. The card and cable work as I can plug
in my Creative Jukebox III and it is recognised immediately.

Installed VS SE and DirectX 8.0. Updated the directx from the MS site,
and then found that Directx9 was on the graphics CD, so installed that
as I was still getting the problem below.

However VS SE cannot find the DV camcorder on the cable, and will not
let me choose the device control (MS1394 or TI1394).

It tells me that either no video capture driver is installed or the
device is not connected. The device is (Hitachi VM-D865LA) so have I
missed a step with the video capture driver.

Where can I find these??. I cannot locate any CD that came with the
    firewire card.

Device manager shows Legacy Video Capture in both systems

    TIA

Have you tried the website for the manufacturer of your firewire card? If they don't have downloads of all of the stuff that would come on a CD with the card, they at least ought to have a phone number to call.

  3. Are there drivers then for the card.? I cannot remember and W2K recognises it and installs its own drivers.

I have managed to track down the supplier who I think sold it to me and will ask them tomorrow, but their current ad only mentions the Ulead software, nothing about drivers.

The card is not a known brand that I can see and although I have a booklet ( I have a card in 2 machines) It mentions nothing about a driver CD, just the windows drivers.

  4. Aarrrgghhhh !!!

I just moved the firewire card back to the old machine and it will not work. Moved the cable back to the socket I used originally (CN1)and it works. I was using CN3 as it was just nearer to me.
Put the card back into the new machine and that is now working.

  5. Just tested all the ports.

The only one I can get the video s/w to work with is CN1.

Yet if I plug my creative jukebox III into the others, the hardware wizard starts up, so they must be working.

Can anyone explain why this might be happening??

    TIA
