  1. k, here's the deal...

i got this SVCD compliant mpeg2 file, and tmpgenc WONT take it. im getting an 'cannot open, or unsupported' error. ive done countless conversions like this and others and HAVE NO idea whats going on. i set the priority higher for my powerdvd mpeg2 decoder in environmental settings.

i'd provide you with more info, but i dont know where to begin with this one. i guess all i can say is that other programs (these specs were taken from avicodec) report it as:

    File : 394 MB (441 MB), duration 0:22:40, type MPG, 1 audio stream(s), quality 88 %

    Video : 404 MB, 2496 Kbps, 29.970 fps, res. 480*480 (16:9), MPG2 = MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD), Supported

    Audio : 36 MB, 224 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 chan., 0x51 = Mpeg-1 audio Layer 2 [0xc0], Supported

this is driving me nuts. im not even trying to make it an svcd. im just trying to make it a VCD compliant mpeg1 file cuz im backing up my stuff so i can format my 2 harddrives and put em in my new pc that im building.

    thanks people!

And setting the Direct Show Priority higher did not help either?

You can run a MPEG2 file through DVD2AVI and it will create what is called a project file (filename.d2v) and a seperate audio file. You should be able to open the D2V file directly in TMPGEnc. You can also use an AviSynth AVS script to read the D2V into TMPGEnc assuming you have installed AviSynth.

TMPGEnc seems to like D2V or AVS files (pointing to D2V files) more-so-than MPEG2 files direct.

  5. You can also open the file with VirtualDubMod and frameserve it to TMPG.

Tmpge versions previous to 2.52.require the Tmpge mpeg m2v mpeg 2 video plugin fromt the tools section, and then have it selected a hgher priority in the environmental settings.I have power dvd installed and tmpg still would not open mpegs until this plugin was installed.

  7. aight,

so im trying to continue with tmpegenc cuz im not as familiar with dvd2avi as i am with it. so i have powerdvd installed, so im using the Cyberlink codec i guess. i tried the m2v plugin and still no go . and the direct show priority was already at 2 (higher than the others), but jsut for giggles i tried setting it to 3; still wont work.

i guess ill try dvd2avi and see what happens, oh and yeah, i got avisynth.

thanks for the help! keep it coming..

  8. wow holy cArp...

i lowered ALL the plugins in environmental settings to the same # with the exception of the m2v plugin and it took it. should i assume that itll work? or will my quality suffer with this plugin? ive read its somewhat inferior to the other mpeg2 ones...

    thanks

Give DVD2AVI a try. It is VERY easy to use!

    P.S.
There are many guides on here that explain how to use DVD2AVI with DVD VOB files that have been RIPPED from a DVD. The process is the same when your source is an MPEG-2 file except you are loading the MPEG-2 file instead of the multiple VOB files from a DVD RIP.
