  1. I know that SVCD's can play audio with a frequency of 48000hz but a vcd must be 44100hz. What I am wondering is if I have an SVCD with 48000hz audio frequency and I have to use the VCD header trick for my standalone dvd player to play it, do I have to convert the audio to 44100hz or will it still work at 48000hz.

    Thanks

  2. not all DVD players can play SVCD audio at 48 Khz. those that can't may get audio sync issues. i would advise you to downsample anywayz.

i usually just let tmpgenc downsample the audio 48 Khz -> 44.1 Khz.

dvd2avi can also downsample with higher quality, but longer time.

as for your specific question, no..you shouldn't need to downsample. by using the VCD header trick.....your dvd player is basically treating your SVCD as a xVCD....so not downsampling is just another non-compliant VCD spec...since your dvd player already thinks your SVCD is non-compliant VCD..it wouldn't really matter anywayz.
